727-200 sim for sale
« on: October 15, 2017, 03:16:13 PM »
727-200 cockpit considered for sale.

A unique cockpit project for sure! The sim now runs on X-plane 10 and wonderfully so I must add! I love it dearly, but little use and other commitments have me reluctantly considering letting it go.

It is based on real 727 parts, some purpose built parts, and some "home meade" parts. MIP is "home made" all MIP instruments are designed by myself and displayed on LCD screens ran by AirManager software on a client PC.

Real TQ restored and converted for use with FS.

Real OH panel converted for use with FS

Real Yokes (actually from a 747. They are stamped 1968 so they must be from one of the very first Jumbos!) Interfaced and working.

Real Glare shield and fire panel. Interfaced and working ligts and switches.

Real Sperry autopilot With workinf switches, solenoids and lights

Real Flight Engineer main panel. Interface job started, but not complete.

Real Flight Engineer aux panel. Interface job not started.

Real Captain, FO and FE seats

Custom made "retro" Boeing radios from Ruscool Electronics.

2 off PC's. One main FS server and a client for related applications such as instruments, radios and Input cards.

2 off Benq MW811st projectors

Required I/O cards, power supplies + lots of bits and bobs.

It is sold complete or not at all.

Price 17.000$ or best offer. It is listed elsewhere and I reserve the right to pull the ad at any time.

Buyer responsible for pick up. The sim is located in Norway.

Hmmm...maybe have to buy that lot by you John and build another neighboring mancave to put it in....of course Simlady might not like the term mancave in your case. 🙄

In any event,  someone in proximity should jump on this.   I feel the asking price is right and a good deal looking at what is there and what has been done.   Plus its a 727!

-Jack, well...I would certainly do that, but at the current condition inside there, it's more like an 1/2 star accommodations, and surprisingly, even the critters are staying out of it...rare for my neck of the woods (not sure if that is a good thing or bad?). I keep saying someday soon it'll be ready. Then again, my someday is more like forever and ever day before it's done! Although, we did put 3 computer cabinets in a straight line this past weekend...lol...not kidding and Karen says you'd thought I just built the Taj Mahal or something the way I went on about it. Of course, I say one thing leads to another you know...hehehehe!

-Scott, we did talk about that just yesterday and I was going on about the 25'x40' shed as well as the 15'x20' wood shop on the property. She says "what about the house?" and I replied "we got matches right?"...rotflol...but, I did say that! She looked at me dead serious and says  "ARE YOU CRAZY?!" then a blank look came across her face and she replies "OH WAIT, NEVERMIND!". LOL, now that was funny! Surely, I had to answer "why yes honey, have I ever not been?". Just like that she says, "...well, we could get the Amish folks to remove it piece by piece for free..." Now, her saying that is just crazy with style!

Anyway, I agree with you that someone should jump on Olav's sale right away, not too many working B727 sims these days. What I like is how he did the gauges using monitors and Air Manager. Of course real gauges would be cool, but there are only two guys that I know who could do them and they're way too busy doing B737-300 gauges.

-Plus, the other thing he has in this B727 sim is the seats; especially, the FE or Second Officer Seat. That is likely the hardest seat to acquire and if has the seat rails for it, that is even better. So, if you're in his neighborhood, go check it out. Additionally, it's a turn-key sim with long term value; the further we go in time the less you will see like this. Not saying they're rare, just saying a little harder for people to let them go...

Best Regards,

John

PS. Olav, I didn't mean to hi-jack the thread, but I figure some good humor along with some testimonial truth about the B727 will help people to laugh a little and think about buying your sim.  :idiot:

Hi guys. Haven’t been in here for a while. Good to see there has been some activity in this thread! :) The sim is still here, no interest whatsoever in this part og the world apparently. People don’t realise what this is I think, and how hard it is to find these components nowadays. Everybody with an interest in homecockpits here in Europe wants an NG or an Airbus. The 727 to me is testament to the golden age of the jet liners. Back when pilots cried when they had to retire, there were proper flight decks full of steam gauges, bells and whistles and when air travel had something glorious about It, whereas the NG’s hails from the age of LCCs, fatigued pilots on crap contracts and cattle like handling of passengers. Oh well, each to his own and maybe I’m nostalgic, but I know well which era I prefer! Anyway, I don’t worry to much about it not selling. It doesn’t bother me that it sits in my spare room, maybe I’ll even find time to play with it again now as hard winter is setting in. Thanks for the comments guys! Cheers! Tor

Dont sell it! Otherwise you will wonder -"what happened to my sim" for the rest of your life.
Better to store it as you say and take it up in a few years. More economical aswell. :)

I get tired of my sim sometimes, but the some periods i get into it extremly (like this month).

My tip is not to sell it when you appreciate it that much. The golden era, i agree!

Thanks guys. Yes I have decided to keep it. I had a few guys approach me about it over the last week, and the more they asked about it, and how they would go about moving it out of my house the more I realised I need to keep it! LOL

Good choice to keep it.

Either that or I was going to have to offer my right nut from the US along with Trevor's left nut in Canada just to see if we could convince you to ship to North America....LOL

I think that was a good decision!  I have gotten rid of a couple of sims.. You always come back. There is no cure for this sickness.... It just comes back....

Like Bob said, it's a sickness, and strange one at that. I do get tired of the hobby sometimes, but I always come back to it with a renewed passion.

In the past, "getting tired of it" usually resulted in me parting out whatever current project I was working on. I've regretted getting rid of each and every one of those projects.

Glad to hear you're sticking with it. There's no harm in walking away for awhile. (It's also much cheaper in the long run.)
