Home built 737 TQ for sale- SOLD!
« on: November 02, 2017, 06:56:28 PM »
Bob Reed is the lucky winner... or victim. Time will tell  ;D

When selling my 737 flight deck, I had decided to keep my home built throttle mostly for sentimental reasons as this was probably the first 737 fully motorized TQ as far as I know and I had spent over one year building it. But it's now time to let it go.

At that time, there were no other options besides converting a real TQ and I had neither the funds nor the knowledge and drive to tackle a real 737 TQ conversion. I wanted something just a little better than a CH throttle and started with 2 wooden sticks for the handles. Somewhere along the way, I decided to try and make it look like a real TQ and this is what I ended up with.

As I mentioned above, the TQ is fully motorized using servo motors for the throttle handles and the spoiler handle. I did install 2 small DC motors for the trim wheels but I removed the trim wheels as they interfered with the CDUs since the TQ is a bit wider than the real TQ. Several old timers in this forum have seen it in action and you can also see it in some of the videos I posted in my YouTube channel "737NGSimdriver"

The servos are driven by Phidgets hardware and I designed and built some simple logic boards to handle the need to power the servos off or on during certain conditions so that the handles could be moved manually. Having said that, I doubt anybody would be able to figure out what I did nor could I for that matter. So, please don't expect any support. All the switches and pots are wired and can be connected to your choice of interface boards. But this is not a project for the faint of hearts. ;D

So, if anybody is interested, I'm asking $200.00 with pickup only. I have no interest to pack it & ship it, so please don't ask. The price is less than the cost of all the components and I am located in Gravenhurst, Ontario.

If interested please pm me.

Thank you,

Maurice

Being an "old timer" all I can say is that it works flawlessly and it looks like a million. Had a few flights with it and made it safely  to the jetway!!!

ps: Hi Mau! :D

Anyone in the Toronto area should snap this up.  At that price it is an absolute steal.   Maurice is being very generous.  It is a work of art for a homemade Tq.   I have flown it so will attest it is a nice piece

Scott

Ps-  hope all is well Maurice!.

Thanks Scott & Jack for the very nice endorsement. But I don't want to give the wrong idea to anyone. It will require interfacing knowledge to bring it back to its former 'glory'  :)
This TQ would be great for anyone who can't afford a real commercial unit and who is looking for something better than a joystick or CH yoke or similar. But you will have to trace wires and connect them to an appropriate interface. I used Phidgets software at that time but I have no idea if that still exists, so buyer beware.
Frankly, I'm not even sure I could resurrect this TQ and make it do what it used to do  ??? . But it could be a nice project for anyone daring and knowledgeable enough to build/assemble a flight simulator.

Thanks again,

Maurice

I too can vouch for this TQ.  I remember the first time using it, and I have to say I was floored it wasn't real.  Mau did an awesome job constructing it.

Hey Maurice,

I understand how you feel about not packing and shipping, but if you get to the point of wanting to do that please let me know first because I want it for sure... For everyone else, that means I got first dibs...lol :idiot:

Hi John,

I'll keep you in mind but if I do decide to pack it, it won't be for $200.00. It's a heavy item that will probably cost around $100.00 for shipping to the US, plus I need to buy crating material, so I would say it would be more like $350.00.

So, I still much prefer somebody picking it up for $200.00 but if nobody wants it in the next 2 weeks or so, you get dibs if you still want it for $350.00. Not sure why you of all people would be interested in this TQ after your long lived simulator building life unless you intend to sell it as well, but then again, you've bought many stranger things in your life, like the fire tuck simulator for instance. ;D

Cheers,
Maurice
