A little something that was dropped on my door step today. I think we should all listen to it!

An interesting perspective from a former colleague, which may of course be correct.
However I think Pete has overlooked the fact that Lockheed Martin are a pretty big company to take on, even for Dovetail; particularly if they try to hang the demise of Flight Sim world on them.

In my opinion, (which is not necessarily the opinion of PC Pilot), it was the way that Dovetail structured the product, that had more to do with its demise than anything Lockheed did!

Just  :2cw: naturally... 8)

Well I think in this case it is not about who has more money. I think it is about who is breaking what license agreement. And since we do not know what those agreements say, we are left guessing. Time will tell. I know, at this time, I am in no position to switch over to X Plane.

I agree Bob,

And regarding x-plane,I was telling Trev the other night while he was flying that I've been reviewing a number of X-plane add-ons, both commercial and freeware. And I have t say I was very impressed, X-Plane has evolved into a very realistic simulator. Also the quality of the freeware scenery is outstanding when compared to the FSX/P3D offerings. Yet of course for we cockpit builders there needs to be more support in terms of input/output hardware. While a number of builders here have overcome this issue with Arduino or Teensy cards, they require a bit more knowledge that the plug and play solutions.

Again that's just  :2cw:

Correct me if I'm wrong please, is Lockheed Martin connected or under any agreement with Dove Tail Games?

From what I understand Dove Tail games canceled the FS project not Lockheed Martin, in my opinion P3D still alive and going strong, I don't see the panic to switch to X-Plane, maybe in the future they too decide to pull the plug and only then I'll panic.

Sam,

The concern stated in the video is that the Academic licence for P3D is what would be potentially under threat. LM is not allowed to licence the software for 'entertainment' use, as those rights were bought by Dovetail from Microsoft. LM bought the rights for 'professional' or 'training' use. LM is not breaking any agreements, it's the users of P3D that are using it for 'entertainment' are. His theory is that Dovetail would sue LM for not enforcing proper licencing in this area.

I agree, there is no panic for us here to switch to x-plane (cause we're all using the pro licence right?). For the desktop 'gamer' is more where the concern lies.

Also, this is just one you-tubers opinion for a potential suit.

LM's Market cap show's a company value of approx. 100 billion, and employs in the neighbourhood of 100,000.
Dovetail is a private company, so there is no public info for valuation, but GlassDoor estimates 50-200 employees.

I'm not worried that P3D is going anywhere.

As I stated, I am in no hurry to switch to X-Plane nore am I implying that P3D is going anyplace. What I do see in the near future is the price of using P3D going up for many users because no , not all have the Pro license.

Froogle is entitled to his opinion, but I think it's a storm in a tea cup.

If all the P3D users that are using the academic license were suddenly told they needed to buy a 200 dollar license...well they would.

Nobody is going to change their entire add-on directory for 200 bucks.

X-Plane is not for me, tried it and I like P3D better, end of story.

I had to change to xplane  because he marcetti SF260 didn't work in prepar3D v4(64bit) and no one had interest in making a new version or changing the old one.  In Xplane there are a few free versions and one new version is in build, don't know if its for free or payware, ill wait and see.  I didn't regret the switch because in my opinion xplane gives more realistic flightmodels and scenery(.  Prepar3d has a winter weather witch xplane doesn't have.  Burt as i said my switch was necessary  or i had to build another cockpit and that was no option for me

Hi All,
I've been hanging on with FSX:SE for quite some time in hopes that FSW would come through with a 737 model for their sim. Many times they asked on the website/FB what the userbase wanted next. Myself, it was always a 737. Many others also asked for the same. It never materialized. I think they missed the boat on this one. I am a lost customer and from what I saw on their related pages, there are many more.

Recently I gave up waiting.. and moved to a P3D4.2 Professional Developers license. I think LM's End User Agreement is quite clear on who his elegable for an Acedemic licence. It's a shame that this sim went down. I'm hoping someone more in touch with the FS World will be able to acquire the rights to the sim and provide another useful 64 bit platform

As I'm a user of the Prosim suite, X-Plane is not an option for me. I thought SE was stable, and it was compared to old FSX, but LM's V4.2 is even more so. Sadly will not get a chance to use a 737 model in FSW.

Just my  :2cw:
