Title: Sim Speaker System in a small package...
Post by: sagrada737 on March 19, 2019, 01:32:30 PM
For my B737-800 Sim's sound system, I started out with a Home Theater Amp, and an array of speaker, including a large sub woofer.   After using this setup for a couple of years, I am beginning to realize that the "roaring sound" from this sound system was not all that useful -- especially when using online apps like PilotEdge.   I have been looking for a smaller, more compact sound system, and I have finally settled on a unit that meets my expectations for the kind of sound quality I want for my Sim.

Since I am now in the process of packaging my Sim for installation on the 6dof Motion Platform I am making, I needed a small amplifier/speaker setup to allow for convenient placement/mounting within the cockpit, that would yield the quality and level of sound you might expect from the 737-800.  I found this in the Bose Solo 5 speaker system.

The Bose Solo 5 cost about $225.  I bought mine from Best Buy.   The size of the Solo 5 is ab out 2.5" x 4" x 22", with easy connectivity and built-in mounting points.    The Solo 5 comes with its own remote control for On/Off, Volume Control, Input Selection, and Audio Settings functions.  The nice feature of the Bose Solo 5 is its Bass capability.   This little guy really puts out some nice sounding, deep Bass.   The Solo 5 remembers its settings, so all that is necessary is to turn the unit On.

I input to the Solo 5 from a small Audio Mixer (Mackie 802VLZ4), which processes sound coming from the Sim computer (P3Dv4) and the Flight Model computer (Sim-A), allowing a bit of fine tuning of the sounds.

I'm very pleased with this particular speaker solution for my Sim.  When it comes to things like audio for our Sims, the solutions are very subjective, and everyone tends to do their own thing.  My intent here is to share what works well for me with my 737-800 Sim.  If you are looking for a good quality, ultra-compact speaker system for your Sim, the Bose Solo 5 may be the answer.  It was for me...
