Hi, does anybody using the PM 737 FSX MODEL has been able to edit the landing lights using 3d lights redux or a similar program?? thanks

Hey Juan. I was hoping someone else would answer this for you as I am not to this point yet. I am using the 738 from PM so at some point in the near future I should be able to see if I can. What exactly are you trying to do? I do not even know what 3D lights is.

Hi, in the flight models in FSX you can adjust the intensity of the landing lights and  taxi by editing  the aircraft.cfg, but since im flying in my cockpit shell  and in cockpit view, i just need those because  the pilot front and sideway views.  I have been able to adjust this values in OPENSKY, OR EVEN PMDG models, but since i use PROJECT MAGENTA 737 suite the only model available to have a decent fly is using their model, but the landing and taxi brightness is very bad and when you taxi or land at night you can't see the runway or the taxiways and i haven't found a way to fix this and is very frustrating to flight at night.

The 3dlight redux is an add on that will substitute all this values in all your flight models, but doesn't fix PM738.

Like Bob, I'm not there yet either, but like you, using the PM 738 Suite.  So all I can offer is maybe an offer of an idea.  Have you been able to re-direct a line in the aircraft.cfg file to another aircraft light system that work well?  I had to do just that for my engine sounds.  PM had sounds going to aircraft sounds that did not exist in P3D. SO I had to go back into PM aircraft config file and direct is to the correct sound file location.

Hi Jr2mey, i tried several times to do what you suggest, but nothing changes, i think is something about the model.cfg but i tried to contact  the creator of the model with no luck.

For those that use these positions, you must purchase A2A Simulations Shockwave Lights 3D Redux and setup everything according to their instructions. Additionally, the above data is something I figured out on my own and I, nor Project Magenta are responsible for any problems with your setups, computers or etc. Please do not contact Project Magenta regarding any issues...

Also, you should take time to understand how the positions are done in the 3D Axis environment.

Jack,

This could be a long topic or a short one really. If you purchase the Shockwave Lights (SWL) and read the information on them, it will explain how the choices you make inside the SWL setups affect the light intensity. Basically, too explain it somewhat, you're using different files, like bitmaps, that have been modified and those are what changes the light intensity or brightness. So, you can make different choices as to how they appear.

Do you see the names in the config files? Look at fx_shockwave_navred or fx_shockwave_beaconb, those identify the light right; well, there are different versions of these lights and they will do what you ask. This is an excerpt from the pdf manual:

Lights Overview

Fx_shockwave_landing_light
Standard landing halogen light – this is our standard landing light and should be tried first.

Fx_shockwave_landing_light_old
Older bulbs with less brightness and with a touch of yellow.

Fx_shockwave_landing_light_small_xenon
Latest technology in lighting and quite bright, if not blinding. You have undoubtedly seen cars at night with that bright light with a hint of blue. We put these in the Mooney. They look best on smaller, luxury, aircraft.

Fx_shockwave_landing_light_light
This is an actual ambient light we place below and forward of the aircraft. This lights up the front lower part, representing the reflections and light that slips out of the side of the bright landing lights and results in the lighting up of the actual aircraft. Placing this ambient light just right takes a lot of trial and error to look right. This technique is new for Redux.

Fx_shockwave_landing_light_short
Shorter beam – we placed these in the Lear to improve the smoothness of the beam (reduce the ripples on the fuselage) when close and below the aircraft.

Fx_shockwave_landing_light _narrow
Narrow beam that works well when a light is placed right next to the fuselage (reduces the ripple on the fuselage).

Fx_shockwave_landing_light_l
Larger beam spread.

Fx_shockwave_beacon
Shockwave beacon, first used on Wings of POWER planes. Beacon light fades down after lighting up.

Fx_shockwave_beacon_b
Used when below the fuselage, “b” stands for “below”.

Fx_shockwave_beacon_h
Used when above the fuselage, “h” stands for “high”.

Fx_shockwave_beacon_l
Large beacon, “l” stands for ‘large”.

Fx_shockwave_beacon_nl
Doesn’t cast any red ambient light, “nl” stands for “no light”.

Fx_shockwave_beacon_lowl
Casts a shorter light, “lowl” stands for “low light”.

Fx_shockwave_beacon_rotating_red
Simulated rotating beacon, nice for older aircraft. This light swells, pulses, then diminishes with every flash.

Fx_shockwave_navgre
Shockwave green nav light. First used on Wings of POWER planes.

Fx_shockwave_navred
Shockwave red nav light. First used on Wings of POWER planes.
“nl” and “old” variants of the lights also exist.

Fx_shockwave_strobe
New strobe effect – modeled after what the eye actually sees when viewing a real strobe. Light flashes fast twice.

Fx_shockwave_strobe_2
Slightly longer timing – allows the light to slightly drift out of sync with the standard strobe.

Fx_shockwave_strobe_3
Same as Fx_shockwave_strobe_2, except further out of sync.

Fx_shockwave_strobe_l
New strobe effect – modeled after what the eye actually sees when viewing a real strobe. Large, single flash. Good for airliners.

Fx_shockwave_strobe_nl
Strobe flashes but does not cast light.

Fx_shockwave_vclight
Standard cockpit lighting. Aircraft VC light positions were slightly altered for better results.

Fx_shockwave_vclight_l
Large cockpit lighting.

Hi John, i tried all morning (in my day off) to make the PM model work with the config you send but didn't work, i followed all the instructions with out any luck.

I was wondering if you have your working PM738 model maybe can you send it zipped to me and see if it work in my FSX.

I been dealing with this a long time ago and im getting tired  :-\

The idea is mainly to dim landing/taxi lights seen from inside the cockpit
No need for strobes , reflections, and all the exterior model eyecandies...
Should be simpler than that ??

Take a look at that, as well as understand that you can reference other aircraft addon lights FX file that will change the lights to be dimmer or brighter. If your lights in Opensky or whatever look right just reference them in the aircraft.cfg file. The fx file is already in the effects folder.

Look at my aircraft.cfg file again, I am referencing the PMDG FX files and the Shockwave 3D lights FX files for the same PM aircraft.

Okay, to clarify, you are talking about how the taxi light illuminates the ground in front of you right? If that is the case, can you check the "advance animations" in the FSX settings and see if that changes the brightness. I want you to check and see if something else got changed somehow...

Hi Jack,

If you're looking for brightness, please follow a long... As for the nav lights, strobes and etc, I wasn't talking about exterior view; instead, I was talking about splash reflections that you as a pilot in a cockpit would see at night.

Likely, you've been in a real plane at night and have seen how those reflections illuminate everything. If you were taxiing and had your nav and beacon lights on, you would see the reflections easily enough. Once you turned the strobes and landing lights on, you might not see the reflections. Thus, my discussion was about adding extra lights in key places too make the reflections look more real.

If I were to add 3 strobe lights above the cockpit windows in cockpit view of FSX, the reflections would get brighter and look better. However, if you  looked at the same plane in exterior view, you would see 3 strobe lights above the cockpit windows. The thing is, as a cockpit builder, I don't care about exterior view at all, so I will place aircraft lights all over the place too make things look more realistic. For the people who are concerned with exterior views and they looked at it, it would be totally wrong...
