There is, but I can't remember what they are called. It's a large flat headed screw with a threaded axle that screws into a similar shaped piece with an inside threaded shaft. They come in specific lengths and they don't screw together any tighter than that length.

I used them on my throttle shaft reverser pivot points. I just can't remember what they call them.

Hey Jack,

I think what Mike is talking about is similiar to what is called a "chicago screw" used in leather work.  Here is a link:

http://www.loonfeatherleather.com/Category/main.taf?cat=4&pc=11

This is only similiar to what Mike is talking about as the lengths here are very short . . however there is a similiar product with longer lengths. The ones I have seen are made of aluminum and probably other materials and are available in the states at Lowe's hardware stores.  Maybe this will help a little.

Hey Jack,

Here is a better link:

http://www.fastenal.com/web/products.ex?N=999600052&in_dim_search=1

I think what Mike is talking about is "binding post screws".  Not sure of all the sizes available but have a look thru the above link, maybe you can find something useful.

Yup...That's it
Actually just the post part is useful as the thread is 8-32, it can accept any screw.
I'll try to find it locally. (I have no use for ten of them at $25.)
Great find.

You should be able to find them locally . . I think the price at Lowes was about $1.50 for two.

That's it! A Chicago screw. I guess they must have been invented there. Don't know, but I sure couldn't think of the name of them.

Have a look at this picture.

http://www.airliners.net/photo/Untitled-%28Saeta%29/Boeing-727-282-Adv/1391666/&sid=b383675af8b84b4cabf7159772f8828c

It's a throttle quadrant from a 727. If you look at throttle no.2 the bolt head is countersunk, rather than flat. I can get you the part number and then you can google a local distributor.

You are going to make Mike cry with that pic!

Actually on my design, the outside bolt will be countersunk too and the flat part will be on the inside-side.
Your access to the old bird is precious, we certainly will take advantage of it!
Have a good one..
