I had the joyful experience of uncovering a bug in X-Plane this weekend. While programming the MIP switches I noticed something I had experienced on a flight from a few weeks ago. A set of landing lights were still on, even though the gear was tucked and all my landing lights were switched off.

X-Plane 11.X introduced a bug that prevents the wingtip landing lights from turning off, but only when the view is internal. In any external view they work fine.

Thinking perhaps that maybe I just needed to address --> ALL 16 <-- landing lights in X-Plane, I set the controls for the heart of the sun and proceeded to program all 16 landing lights.

No dice.

...and that's how I spent my Summer vacation.

Ray, I'm new at that level of coding - where would one find the datarefs published for an airplane such as the 1900?

For the Carenado 1900 in particular, there's a folder called "DRFS" within the aircraft folder. There's some files in there that contain all the custom datarefs and commands.

Over the past week, I spent a few hours building a rolling temporary platform for the sim. Even though I plan to use the real shell in the final build, I don't have a permanent place for it yet. So in order to prepare wiring harnesses, interface, test and fly from within my office/ sim building shop in the basement, I'm building a makeshift shell to mount MIP, overhead, pedestal, etc.

That not only really good idea, I think its super smart. If you think about it. The controls and electronics in a real aircraft are ment to be removable and replaced. No reason to be able to get everything working the way it should and move each piece into a new home. Looking good

Little by little...  did make a successful flight from KTNT to KTPA today.  What stood out?  I've forgotten how to fly the 737 :(

I've given up being methodical...  It's taking way too long.  I'm just throwing shit together now so I can start throwing the roof and sidewalls in.

I'm wondering if I'm going to have to build a platform for my sim. I bought a overhead structure from opencockpits that bolts into the floor. Obviously I'm not going to try and bolt it into my carpet...

Hey Warren,

Glad to see you flying again, now if I just can follow your flight plan per se, lol...I will get mine up. With all the encouragement from this thread it has gotten me going, as I covered up my camera gear and LEGO city tables, so Karen and I can focus on putting the FDS shell together.

Although, we have the raised garden beds to build, gutter/water runoff pipes to install, 85 tons of black dirt to spread on our lawn, more trees to cut away from the shed, build a 10’x20’ shed for our skid-steer and dismantle two old 8’x10’ sheds. So, yep I did everything except work on my simulator!

Okay, wait...I did clear out the area for it too be located; therefore, I get a little...uh, very little credit I suppose...rotflol  :idiot:

In the mean time, I hope everyone will keep this thread going, as it is the best one ever for me. All of you and Cockpit Builders in general are keeping me in this and much like it was when I started, it is your pics and stories behind them that gives me determination...

Kind Regards,

John

PS Last night I saw Maurice log in, but no post from him. I hope he comes back one day because he was such an inspiration to everyone. Maurice, if you read this, sell the boat and come back to the virtual skies...lol! FDS sells amazing turn-key setups now.  :idiot:

After almost a year finally testing the home build dual yoke! Still needs some fine tuning but the overall impression is very nice.

Hey Sergej,

Looks nice and even though it's been year, just think how much you've learned about your simulator in all that time... :D

Hey Jack,

OEM wipers are a rare thing anymore, but the ones you got look pretty close...where did you get them?

As a matter of interest Jack do you (and anyone else who cares to chip in) have windows in your shell?
I'm about to start enclosing mine and wasn't sure what to do, with or without. I imagine with might necessitate an AC unit in the summer.

Joe.

Yessss. I have AC unit anyway, but also have installed blowers in the cockpit that are operated from overhead switches. Assigned blowers  to Packs Auto switches and 12v dimmers. :)

Yep Have windows  (and backwall)

Much better sound rendering
Keep dust, flies, ladybugs...etc out :P

Apply on the outside of the shell
(easier to remove if needed )

AC no, dehumidifier yes, ventilation yes.

I have front windows on outside (just lift from holders and remove), and side windows on inside.
