MESH HELP
« on: February 17, 2018, 11:49:55 PM »
Hi guys,

Wondering what Mesh you guys are all using with your Prepar3d...  Does it really make a difference?

Flying On-Line, I seem to be in the ground all the time while others are all floating.  I am guessing Mesh may fix that... OR make it worse I guess...

Additionally I understand Mesh makes Orbx look even better than it does without.

Any help would be appreciated.

There are several different options out there.  If you'd like to try a nice free one you can look into FreeMeshX

I'm guessing you understand what mesh does, if not I can throw a link to a quick guide ORBX has as to what it does, and how vectors, LandClass, and Mesh work together to make the landscape seem more realistic.

Other options are Toposim Which is a payware ran by the guy who did the FSGenesis Mesh back in the FS9/FSX days.

FSGlobal by Pilots, Again a payware option.

I use a combination of FreeMeshX and Toposim.  Back in the FSGenesis days, the developer had a galaxy class license that you could get that gave you free lifetime updates.  Not the best business model.  Yet he is honoring it again with his new site at TopoSim so I get all those for free.

If you haven't done anything with mesh before, the free FreeMeshX is a great place to start, and might be all you need.  The other payware options can potentially add a bit more detail in some areas, but I'm not sure how noticeable it really could be.  Especially if you spend a lot of your time in the higher altitudes doing IFR instead of VFR flights.

The higher the LOD number for the area, the higher the detail.

Great Information,  I was looking at the toposim, and read a lot of disturbing stuff about support since he moved to the new company..

Pilots program looks good but just as much money as orbx was, and like you guys stated I do spend a lot of time high above the clouds so not a big lookie loo.

I did have a look at the freemeshX last night, but my issue is the whole torrent download thing..  Never got into that stuff, so not really sure how that all works so I can download the files..

Anyone care to explain that process?  I downloaded the torrent files last night, just not super sure how to go about turning that into a program LOL.

I have ORBX Vector, Base, and NA LC and it works fine.  I think the only time you may run into conflicts is when you have any of their 'regions' which have their own mesh incorporated.  Then it is a matter of which one loads first.

Don't let the torrent aspect of FreeMesh scare you.  it is actually very easy.  You download a free torrent client, open that torrent file and let it do its thing.  When it is done, you can  uninstall that torrent client if you wish.  They just do it that way to keep it free.  They don't have to pay big hosting fees, etc.  It relies on the community to continue sharing the file via the torrent network.

The quality is the same as toposim except for a few areas where toposim has 'ultra' areas.  Might want to consider that before dropping money there.

Jason,  Thanks for the Help..  I appreciate all of it.

for 40 Bucks I will increase my Western Hemisphere (Where I fly Most) and see what it looks like.  In Colorado at Orbx KEGE I don't really notice the difference, but I expect they have their own mesh there.

Hard to say, I think the real noticable difference will be when I depart EGE for my stream tonight..

The ultra areas are limited sections of the US that I don't normally fly but I may check them out.  Thanks again..
