Boeing 737 NG Cockpit in Finland

Hi guys!

I'm building a full scale 737NG cockpit here in Oulu, Finland. I'm trying to keep this fairly low budget build, but still get realistic results. I will post pictures and more details about the sim later.

But now I have a question. I'm planning to buy a complete MIP from flightsimulatorparts.com. There are two options for panel thickness 3mm and 5mm. What are the benefits of having 5mm panels? Is the backlighting affected by thinner panel? My base for MIP is pretty strong so that shouldn't be a problem. The price for 3mm panel is 200£ and 5mm 260£ so it's (80€ for me) cheaper.

I can't say offhand but 5mm is probably OEM spec (or close to it)... if you are building for fun and don't mind the visual difference, put the money towards another piece in your project.

It's actually not as much a visual difference as it is flex (bend) of panels as you operate switches, levers etc.  For example, with the thinner gauge panel - the landing gear handle really causes some flexing as you raise or lower your gear.  So as the previous post says - it's all about how much you want to spend and the realism you are looking for.

Ok, thanks. I think that I will go with 5mm panels. The complete 5mm MIP costs 236£ (325€) in flightsimulatotparts.com. I think that is the cheapest one that I found. It looks like the real thing.
