All the time during winter with apu running. In a sim environment though... agree with Maurice again on that one.

Gary

vidarf

It's the same thing with the equipment cool switches, the lavatory smoke annunciators, the 3-4 switches above the fuel panel which selects whether the FMC source should be this or that. Plus a lot of other stuff that a sim environment really does not require.

But then again - this is a HOBBY. It's our passion. Of course details such as how a knob works is insignificant, but hey - we're spending tens of thousands of dollars on a TOY!

"There is a fine line between hobby and insanity". And I have no problem admitting that line is a dot to me! :D

Mau: Don't know how it is with you, but I have "flown" 5 legs today plus a few touch and go practices - AND obsessed over that knob. :D

No need to confirm your insanity to me Vidar. I wish I could recommend a good shrink to you but I have no contacts in Norway, or at least no sane contacts :)

Well, I need to buy that switch, so I may as well get the correct one!

So now that we have agreed on how the switch works (I think), does anybody actually use it???

(I'll shut up now)  :-X

Now, that's a question worth asking :)

Last night I flew from KDAB to KMSP on VatSim and I had fuel in the wing, as well as the center tank(s), and once I got up into climb mode I noticed fuel was depleting from the wing tanks first. "Wait a second" I thought, isn't it normal for center tanks to be depleted first? Most times I've flown in the sim, that is the norm.

Anyhow, I try cycling the fuel pump switches and no change. So, I cycled the crossfeed switch and it fixed things...fuel now flowing from the center tank first. So, the irony is, this has never happened before while flying...ever! Therefore, the switch is useful and I need to be more careful on what I read here in the CB, I got jinxed!

Oh well, I guess it's Karma; I've posted some questions that might be coming back on me via Karma. Fine, since we're on the subject of crazy Karma, and that I am in the same insane vein as Vidarf, how about this question?

Do you wear your 5 point seat belt while flying your sim?

Uh,...I do! No kidding...I do for every flight. Okay, not all 5 points, more like 3. So, that brings me to this real question for the real pilots. Do you wear your seat belt in all 5 points all the time, if not, when do you switch from 5 to 3 and back to 5, if you do it that way? In other words, is there a SOP for pilots wearing the seat belts?

OK, that's it, I'm getting out of this site and this hobby before I too go totally bonkers. I wouldn't  even wear a seatbelt in a full motion simulator, never mind on a fixed base  ::)

Bah Humbug!

vidarf

Why do I feel I'm on that weird part of the internet now...? :D

blueskydriver

Yes, it's bonkers! I know, but I try to follow procedures like a real pilot would, even though I cannot be one, I can at least pretend or imagine...uh, fancy word...Sim-u-late it...lol. Then again, I am the nut that likes to open his package of "Jet Fuel" scent, place it on top of a fan, and let the smell fill the room! Call me crazy yes, hey I'm certified crazy, and I even have a C-ATP and a medical certification from a quack doctor. Oh, C-ATP stands for Crazy-Airline Transport Pilot license signed by that quack doctor...lol!

Vidarf, actually you're on the right side of the net, it's people like us that make people on the otherside laugh, roll their eyes in amazement, lol, rotfl, and just plain shake their head asking themselves why they're into this hobby...now, if we can get Maurice from shaking his head and just apply for his C-ATP license, we'd be complete. I'm working hard on him; he is going crack sooner or later. Or, he might just throw in the towel and telephone me to say "that's it, I am done, you can have all my stuff for $1, just get it out of my house, my life! So, either way, I can't lose; although, there is the long stretch odds that Maurice will just give in and get the small gauge that is pointless, get the crossfeed valve selector that only does one click instead of two, and starts buckling his 5 point seat belt that he usually just sits on! My bets are he will do that and be a long shot sooner than later!

By the way, I plan to fly today on VatSim, if anyone is interested. And yes, I will still click my belts, but now I might call it "the Mau", then add that to the before taxi checklist...lol.

OKAY! WHO IN THE HE** DID THIS? I know I did not type "homosexual certification" in my post...who changed this? Seriously, I only typed "a m.e.d.i.c.a.l (no periods) certification from a quack doctor". I am looking at my typed post, on my iPad and it reads m.e.d.i.c.a.l. (no periods) certification, yet as I sit here in front of my computer screen, it has been changed to homosexual. Therefore, someone changed it!

Is there a bug or does someone have rights that they shouldn't? I would never type homosexual...EVER! I did not make a typo either. We all know I am married to SimLady/Karen, the F16 girl...

Do not worry.
We have a soft which chases spamers with keywords and makes their post sound completely off the mark.
Will look into this with Trev

No one would ever have doubts on your fuel valve drain!!!

Okay, sorry didn't mean to get angry...It is a bug and I started a new thread about it. I never seen this before. I understand about words being used for commerical links, but now it's a bug or hack to change words around like that?

Hackers! Is there a change word for them? What would that be I wonder?

Back to the regular insanity...I am fine now. Thanks Jack, that "fuel drain valve" is a good one, and I can honestly say, it only fits one type of connection...the female end connection!...lol.

I'm gooshed, it's getting a bit late for me tonight, but I'd love to meet up with some of you guys on Vatsim sometime.

How will I find you? Pink carnation in your pitot tube fuel drain valve?

blueskydriver

Sean,

The best program I found to use is VatSpy, you can locate folks by name, VatSim number or call sign, as well as find them on a map. VatSpy is a free add-on...

I am listed as NWA1381.

BSD it is not hackers, it is software we are running and have been for some time. You never saw it before because you never typed anything to set it off. I think Mary ran into this the other day when he asked who changed his post. Well no "one" did it was the software. It watches for entered words and when it sees them it changes them. Nothing more.

Yes, I use VatSpy, I'll keep an eye out for you. What's your local time there? Almost 2300hrs here.

Bob Reed

Um.......... Don't? Why would you need to? Be creative medtest.... lol

blueskydriver

Sean, it is 16:56 for me right now or CST (-5 GMT). I hope to see you on there soon...

Bob, I am confused, why would the program change m.e.d.i.c.a.l. (no periods) to homosexual? Is there a random generator controlling this or does someone actually type in a replacement words list?

I can see how this might be misconstruded and make people upset (it did me), so is this program meant to weed out curse words mainly?

:idiot: I have to say that BSD is not swinging that way....

Home movies to prove it..  ;D

Talk about crossfeed, we get all the crossfeed of words, so we're not hi-jacking the post... As for the home movies, they're not for sale either, nor on a porn site! However, they're available for in-flight movie on my B737 sim that has no pax seats...sorry, no seats available in the futurE either!

No not curse words, spam. Spammers come in and write there stupid adds. Well that is one of the ways they get paid is by the words in the post. So this software takes a lot of the words that they get paid for and change them. Now here is the idea behind it, if the words are not there they do not get paid for it. So if we make it so they can not get paid for all their work, they will stay away from us. It has been running for some time now this is nothing new.

It is just one of the words that is in the list. The software is doing what it is supposed to.
