Hi to all,

I would like to get a pair of these to mount on my FDS shell.

Where can I get a set of these ?

Nick,
I bought mine from Simquip, here in Australia (just outside Brisbane).

The ones they make are the fold-away ones and you can buy them in matt finish or chrome (I bought the chrome ones).
They are a little expensive, but top quality.

Here's the url:

Hope this helps, mate,

I got real ones from Nick at APHS (www.oncealoft.com)
They can be folded back out of view,

They fit perfectly on the FDS shell and can be used as intended

Hi Nick,

I am using the same as Jack.
If Nick doesn't have it in stock he could put you on the line for a set.

Regards,

Sean

I'm using the ones in the link Frank supplied, but I got them from a UK supplier a bit cheaper (I think, not sure what the conversion rate is).

NIck, will these work?

I just found them at Conrads, here in Germany (online).  I am picking up a set for myself, if you want I can grab you a set and bring them down this summer (or mail them to you)

http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/183422/Mentor-Messgeraetegriff-32861203-x-L-10-mm-x-120-mm-Stahl-Hochglanz-verchromt-mit-Kunststoff-Ueberzug-im-Griffbereich

This link is the 100mm version: http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/product/183409/Mentor-Messgeraetegriff-32861003-x-L-10-mm-x-100-mm-Stahl-Hochglanz-verchromt-mit-Kunststoff-Ueberzug-im-Griffbereich

Anyone else think these will work?

If they do, five of ordering will get us a nice discount, then it's just the cost of mailing.  I have access to US Mail and European.

Gee, Warren, 11.50 euro's instead of 41 euro's. I think someone is making a huge profit???

I hear you, Frank.
I'm not against profit, but wow.

I'm not looking to make a profit, but I don't mind saving money.

Hey Warren,

I have no idea if these will work, but I am sure I can find similar to these in my local shop, so no need to buy them from abroad.

Just wondering though, if the real thing has something special about it, so that spending 40 euros instead of 10 euro may make sence.

Maybe guys who have the real thing, hop in here and give us their opinions?

Thanks
Nick

Sounds good.  The common theme is that they are used with instrument transport cases so any place that builds those cases or provides electronic parts should have them.

As for fake versus real ones, I would imagine that the key things on the real ones would be:

Aircraft grade aluminum to save weight
I would guess 100kg weight limit
rust-proof (aluminum, so no issue)
spring loaded to stay in both positions

I would have to say in my limited experience that they are used to help you get in your seat and move the seat back and forth.  As long as they hold up to those weight considerations, I would imagine they would work.

Take care!

Attaching those to the shell might prove complicated (not the right angle).

One of these cases where saving= more work/headaches+complication+not really up to par result.
I still highly recommend the real ones.
They have a base designed at the proper angle and can be installed on the FDS shell in some 15min.

My 2 cents, please correct my errors...

1. Nick, Those €40 are not real ones. They are exactly the same as the €10 ones. Not aircraft handles at all.

2. Jack, the part of the FDS shell that these would fit to is parallel to the floor (at least in mine). I don't see the angle being a problem.

3. The replica ones have a 10mm stud that would require the FDS shell to be drilled. Not itself a problem, but the holes are very close to where the windscreen roof attaches.

4. The 120mm ones (from memory) fit the gap in the FDS liners perfectly.

I'm visiting a friend who has real ones fitted tomorrow. I'll make a point of having a real close look.

Hello,

Thanks for the replies.

Well i will give a try in my local shops around on Monday to see what i find, and get back.

Sean it would be a great help to get few pics from the real ones if that is possible of course.

Thanks to all,

Nick

Hi Sean
The real ones are 110mm
They are attached to a bracket which is attached to the shell.
The bracket does not attach to the part which is parallel to the floor but on the window frame mount
This allows for folding them backwards out of view.
See pics.
