FDS shell and Simworld hardware

Sorry guys but I had to start a new subject with the same tittle because I can't re-open the last one.

Just to give you a final report on the Simworld MCP fit on my glare shield.

It fit, but you can't use the Simworld bracket they provide, with the MCP support bracket the MCP is 1/2 inch wider than the regular G3 FDS MCP.

But using the FDS MCP support bracket and a bit of Fabrication you can make it happen, here is the finished product...

Thank you Luis, see I'm a hands  on guy, I like building stuff, metal cutting, welding, I'm a car guy, my first hobby was rebuilding old cars, I love that stuff, when I get into trouble is with computers and assigning stuff, I've got much better in the pass 3 years tho.

Hello Guys,

Just getting back to you on the Simworld MCP installation.

Is just awesome the way it looks and feel, you can actually hear and feel every click, soft lights with a dimmer on the MIP, I did one test flight and all I can say is, !It works!

Took a little while to get here but it made it before the New Year!

Yes I do have the parts from the old one, the encoders and wiring looks good to me, if there is an problem it has to be with the boards,  all I know is that Prosim is not detecting any switch contact or spikes like before.

Anyone willing to investigate?

Are you saying Sam, that when you removed the FDS MCP/EFIS outside of the cockpit it works just fine?

Ya I'm curious if the encoders themselves were wearing out, or the short we found fried part of the board.
I'd be happy to have a look at it.

When the FDS MCP started malfunctioning,  I checked on ProSim737 switches tab and there was one or two switches spiking or sending contact signals into the prosim system .

After removing the old MCP and installing the new one, all switches contact spikes went away, they are not there anymore.

My understanding of it is that there was a issue with the electronics inside the MCP, I didn't see any loose wire or anything  else.

The short was on the negative wire, don't see why it would short out,  the whole cockpit is negative wired.

It's strange to consider but it can happen.

It depends on how the board was designed to be used. If it was an isolated design (which most powered by a plugin transformer like that are) a ground loop can occur causing several possible issues, including the power supply going out of regulation and providing too high a voltage.
I've damaged several power supplies by inadvertently connecting the isolated negative side to earth ground or primary side ground during design testing.
