Title: Cessna 208b Caravan Panel
Post by: RudderRat on January 04, 2015, 08:47:15 AM
Hello everyone.  I would like to build a panel for the C208.  I am wondering if anyone has some dimensional diagrams of the actual panel that I could build from?

Thanks
RR

One way to do it :

Check flightdeck pictures of the Caravan on Airliners.net
and extrapolate dimensions from the standard top gauges.

There is also a Glass option on the 208 that you can use with Project Magenta GA Glass gauges.

Thanks for the tip Jackpilot.

If anyone is interested these should print out to the (almost) correct size.  If you have a 208 and you care to compare them to your panel it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sub panels are cut from 1/8 hardboard and primed.

Testing out the gauges (Air Manager software).

Looks good.
Will you also emulate the top row of gauges.

Nice layout on those gauges RudderRat, what is that software (air manager software) and did you cut those bezels yourself?

Cheers
Joe.

Thanks.  Yes, I plan on doing the entire panel.

Air Manager is a payware program and works awesome.  Here is a link to SimMarket where I got it:

The bezels were made by me.  I will post some pics later but they are hardboard, the tops off of disposable cups and some foam rubber.

Here is how I made the gauge bezels:

1/8 hardboard used as the panel sheet.  Printed some pics for reference and layout;
(https://www.cockpitbuilders.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1222.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd499%2FJustSomeoneNotYou%2FImage1_1.jpg&hash=8ca86b38026d887abfd0ab07e463ae93500a06be)

After the holes were cut in the panel I then cut bezels from more 1/8 hardboard (the pics above were also used for the bezel dimensions);
(https://www.cockpitbuilders.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1222.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd499%2FJustSomeoneNotYou%2Fimage5.jpg&hash=f3973791d5766c995acac44a27b848c08a1c7325)

For the rim on some of the bezels I used the tops of disposable cups;
(https://www.cockpitbuilders.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1222.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd499%2FJustSomeoneNotYou%2FImage4.jpg&hash=5c5941552f35e22f510bd2910a562ed29d963f8d)

Showing the rim installed and bezels primed;
(https://www.cockpitbuilders.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1222.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd499%2FJustSomeoneNotYou%2Fimage6.jpg&hash=2ea79ccbf4dc5508a815ffef10b45bce3122a2dc)

For the odd shaped rim on the HSI and Artificial Horizon I used pieces of foam rubber.  Cut to length, shaped over the template (bottom of pic) and then glued to the bezels.  I am not totally happy with the HSI so I may redo that;
(https://www.cockpitbuilders.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1222.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd499%2FJustSomeoneNotYou%2FImage3.jpg&hash=2864c78187f6a16cd15a30f0c4f6cc4b0d93cdff)

And finally, the HSI and Artificial Horizon with the rim installed and primed;

With the exception of decals, the start panel is complete.  Not sure what I am going to do for decals yet.

A 152 it ain't but still nice to see smaller aircraft on here now and again. And you seem to be doing an amazing job.

Trust me Efe, I had the opportunity to fly it...it is a HUGE and heavy beast
The "Cessna" look is deceiving, when you are under the wing, it is way way above you.

EDIT - I cut a new main panel as the shape of the last one didn't seem quite right.  I think I am a bit closer with this one.

Thanks guys.

Some more done.

Not sure about the individual panels on the 208.  Is the entire panel a flat surface or do some of the panels stand "proud" of the others?

Hi Trent,

You haven't posted in quite a while,
have you managed to finish this ?
I would be interested in seeing any more photos you have, as I'm half way thru a similar venture.

I'll post in a new thread , when I can take some photos that don't look like a bomb site  :D

Regards

Dave
