Boeing Skunk Works

I'm still trying to find out if I can run Squawkbox on one of the Wideview clients. This would greatly simplify my plans for wiring the cockpit for ATC communication and allow for ambient sounds to come from the main FS computer.

Wide FS has already been mentioned, but as I understand it, it is not supposed to be run on a computer already running a copy of FS.

I don't see why this wouldn't work as all client computers on the WV network have internet access for using SB, and where the Wideview server machine goes, the clients follow. It should follow then, that an ATC controller should see my aircraft based on the position of the Wideview client which is the same as the WV server.

When I eventually purchase the comm heads and transponder they would also be plugged into this WV client using SB.

The only downside I see is not seeing any other SB traffic on the ground or airborne except out of the monitor that the WV client is running.

I don't seem to be able to find an answer on the internet or at any support forums.

Has anyone tried this or know just from computer knowledge if this will work as I imagine?

Good Question Mike, SB is Free, so why don;t ya try it and see if it will work.  when you install SB on another machine you select the option "Installing on a client" and then when you install on the Flightsim PC you select that it was installed on a Client.

Give it a go, and check it out.  Worst thing that will happen, is you will have to uninstall it.

I was trying to avoid installing anything on the WV server.

Wouldn't any computer connected to the outside world be considered the 'FS' computer to an on-line network?

Using Wideview all of the clients must have a copy of FS installed, which mine do, but the on-line networks don't know which computer is running their software as long as one of them is running it and is connected to the outside world.

Does that make any sense?

I know what you are saying... I guess in that means any copy of flightsim could be "Assumed" to be the Main Flightsim machine as far as squawkbox was concerned.  The thing is, the SB Gauge to be able to Standby or go into Mode C would still have to be placed on that screen.  and you would need a mouse to be able to control that instrument.  as you know, your not supposed to Mode C until your pulling onto the runway for departure.  and turn it off once you land.

regardless..  It should still work.

Right. I thought about that (Mode C).

Luciano Napolitano created a program called Key-2-LAN that allows control of a client from the server for mouse and keyboard functions.

Having one of OC's transponders would take care of that too. I think.

More head scratching...

Well I found the active IVAO site finally. I had forgotten they split in '05 and was looking at the old site and wondering why there wasn't any activity.

IVAO is still using Teamspeak and their IVAP software, so I will have to try these two instead and see what happens. I have a message out to Luciano about this software/hardware arrangement and I hope I hear something encouraging.

Good thinking..  Please let us know how this works out.  I am really curious to see how you end up making this all work.

As I reacall..... I use to fly and controll for them.. All of there software can be run on a client.

Thanks Bob. That's what I wanted to hear. When the replacement computer arrives next week I'll be trying this out.

I'm also going to look into Key2Lan for control from the server until I can afford the transponder and comm heads.

Radar

;D  I found this great tool, utility, what ever you want to call it. Using 1 keyboard and 1 mouse for multiple computers. Maybe you or others can use it.

Keep up the great work Mike ;D

here...http://sourceforge.net/projects/win2vnc/

That is a good software Radar..  Don't know if it would work quite right in this application, but it is better then nothing..

Good suggestion.

Luciano says that there are variables needed by the on-line software and TS that will not synch through Wideview. I don't have a clue what he's talking about and can't imagine why it wouldn't work as Bob has already indicated. What variables???

The IVAP and TS software aren't going to care that there is another computer the client is talking to. I don't know if Luciano really understood the question correctly or not. Regardless, when I get some time I'm trying it.

Thanks for the link Radar. I'll check it out here in a minute or two.
