Evening chaps!

Todays question for contemplation relates to sounds...
How does pmsounds know which wav to play at what point?

I have run the installer and all the options are ticked and I have also added in the nbump.wav to the folder but do I have to add any config into any files or will it just 'know' to play the sound as you run along the taxiway / runway???
Also, is there a list anywhere of descriptions to what the sounds are?
Cant seem to find any more info...

Cheers
Mike

Hey Mike, I think the nbump sound is configured in the .ini file. (This is also where you can add custom sounds in custom circumstances), but I am not sure how that all takes place.

What PMSounds does, is read the offsets of altitude, and speed and all kinds of stuff like that, and when the "Event" takes place..  PmSounds plays the event.

The best way to know of the descriptions, it to select each file, and hit play.  (Some are airbus sounds) and some are Boeing sounds..

Basically the program scans FS for the events and plays them.  some people even run multiple copies and play "Cockpit callouts" from one set of speakers, and "Outside sounds" from other speakers.

To each is their own..  And your all set.

Ok cheers Trev - I'll give them a play and try work them out.

On a related topic what sounds actually come out of the overhead speakers on an actual 737?
I was planning on routing the call outs, environment sounds etc. through those and engines, wind, bumps etc through a set of speakers in the mip but does ATC come through the OH or only through the headsets?
Cheers

Hey Mike, As for the overhead speakers, it is my impression that "ONLY" ATC comes through those speakers when the Captain turns them on.  As for Autopilot, and EGPWS Sounds they only come out from behind the MIP.

As you know in the real aircraft all the other sounds are real (Wind..Gear.. Flaps..) And of course all the freeking rattles.. (Everything rattles as they go down the runway)

well this worked for me  ;D
quite a realistic setup actually.    sound coming at me from all directions.   and to make mike really happy, i remember him asking about runway 'bump', well AES airports have the centreline 'bump' and
that comes at you really well......
here's the document http://www.737ng.co.uk/sound.pdf
and here's a full scale diagram http://www.737ng.co.uk/sound.gif
hope that gives you some ideas..........

Awesome Ian.  Looks like you have spent quite the time to get that all sorted out.  Amazing..  I do have one question though from your drawing..  Is PC3.. Only for the Handset?  So you can pick it up and make your cabin announcements? (Like a Blow Horn?)  Just curious..  LOL

hi trev......
computer no.3 is one of my wideview machines.  there is no sound being delivered into the 'environment' from this machine.    so, i got a handset from Nick at APHS and hooked it up to the soundcard on machine 3 and the output goes to one channel on the 5.1 system.  i also have a hand mike connected (thru the mixer) which also outputs to the 5.1 system.
beauty of these handsets is they have a push to talk button on the handset.    so no sound reproduction when the PTT is not pressed.
works a treat, you can use it for serious calls, you know, doors to auto and X check, crew seats for takeoff etc or for having a laugh with visitors (who are quite taken with it  ;D  )
so, there you go, must run, i have to make a lot of noise on a trip into Sarajevo......
