Cessna 182 TQ

I am gathering the parts needed to build my center console for my Cessna 182RG.

Only thing is I don't know what to use as the shafts on the Throttle, Pitch and Mixture controls?

Any ideas?

Any rod will do Colin, any rod.
Best is aluminum ¼ inch (5-6mm) sliding into two blocks of nylon or even wood.

cheers thanks, I have had a look at a coat hanger I have for trousers, they are roundish and able to be cut to what ever length I want and the best bit I have hundreds of them laying around already

Unless your coat hangers are a lot different than ours, they won't be heavy enough. Are they 5-6mm in diameter?

Should be able to find a thin steel rod at Wickes or Homebase there cheap.  Usually the 3 or 4 foot length should cover your Throttle, Mixture and Prop.

yes they are about 5mm they are also quite light

I would love them Rob but this whole project is being done on a tight budget and the budget got tighter today due to changes in my circumstances

My whole center console including tq needs to cost me less than £30 before yesterday (I havn't worked out how much I can spend on it as of today)

My main panels is going to be done on about £20.

It is thanks to a couple of wonderfully kind members donating some old USB boards that I can even make a start on it.

Collin any DIY shop will sell you a short piece of dowel rod and you can get plain pine knobs for about 50p each. then all you need as jack said is a couple of blocks of wood or plastic. Just paint the knobs the right colour.

To interface them to your boards you'll need a couple of linear slide pots, about £1.00 each on ebay.

I wasn't sure about using dowel going through wood, wouldn't it get stuck?

As part of this project I want to include a trim wheel but I am unsure what the best way of doing this is, would it work better with a rotary encoder or potentiometer?

Whats the best way to build it?

I have the Bodnar board so it will interface with the PC but I don't have anything else yet (I don't think).

There is a store near me that sell them for £1 each, getting them from Desktop Aviator would cost far too much as I would have to pay for shipping from the states to the UK

CPC is the cheapest and best place to get pots, switches etc in the UK

slide pots are more expensive, 38p more individually, 15p if buying 10. I only need 5.

I havn't looked at any other parts but will look later after dinner.

Thanks for reminding me of CPC, I will look at them when comparing prices in the future.
