Converting car seats for sim use

Hi all,
I decided that $3000 for real aircraft seats plus shipping was a bit too much for me so I have started to make some! My sim frame already has a pair of car seats fitted but I thought I would go a bit further than that for the rebuild. The old GM Barina seats will be going into my real C172 fuselage, more on that later! I bought a very neat Nissan R33 Skyline interior for $100 and have commenced converting them to imitate the Boeing seats. My friend Blake has a couple of real 737 seats in his 747 cockpit so I am lucky to have a good reference source close at hand. The first job was cutting the seat base for the column clearance, I will upload progress as it happens!

The back seat from the car provided the additional cloth for the motor trimmer, the pro trimming cost $100 Total so far $200 and the I don't think the rest will cost too much. I will build a the box section on the rear of the seats, some aluminium bling here and there and also the swing down armrests, that's the plan! Cheers Gwyn

I sure did see those but then add half a gazillion to ship them to oz!!!

They would be perfect for a spoiled BBJ crew!
Hope some builders will jump on that as the base indent for the yoke is not a necessity if you keep the airplane within the envelope!!

Agreed and I never worried about the recess first time around 5 years ago but then my son Alex couldn't reach the pedals. So this time it's more about aesthetics and I have half an eye on the young ones who might want to have a go. I will also be motorizing the rudder pedals with a couple of 12v cordless drill motors, they are ideal with their tough reduction gearboxes. I don't think Alex is too worried anymore, he's a 15 year old air cadet and over six feet tall!
