Title: MD500e instrument panel
Post by: Reco on July 21, 2022, 11:37:13 AM
Hi all

I'm finishing of my MD500e instrument panel and looking for advise

I have a full set of simulated gauges on my LCD screen. I have the normal flight and engine instruments along with HSI, Shadin fuel flow, radar altimeter. I have one space left for one more navigation instrument but not sure which of the following to include
VOR1,VOR2 or ADF or any other nav gauge I have missed

Regards

Rhys

Hi jackpilot

Thank you I went with adf instrument
I'm thinking of using a cheap table to display the default fsx radio stack or maybe a modern panel with map and coms and nav dme and adf.

There is software for Android that allows a tablet to display windows
Have to do some experimenting to see how useful it is. I have fs radiopanel
Which is not to bad

Building an MD500E...  That sounds like a very exciting project.  Any chance that you can share a photo or two of your project/Instrument Panel, etc.?

I have fond memories of the MD500...   My wife Carol used to work for McDonald Helicopter company when it was based in Mesa, Arizona.  She worked in the Contracts Department.  On one occasion, she arranged for a demo flight in the MD500...  We were treated to a fairly exciting flight by their Chief Test Pilot, who gave us a flawless demonstration of the MD500's capability, including high speed backwards flight and barrel rolls.  We also flew to some nearby mountains, where he demonstrated high-altitude ingress/egress while hovering with one Skid touching a jagged mountain outcrop.  Glad I lived through all that... :D

Best wishes with your helicopter Sim project.

Thanks Mike

The MD500 series is my favorite
with the e model being my overall favorite.

I remember the first E model that entered  New Zealand which was in private ownership.
It was used for the Olympic games in 84.
it was based at Wellington airport when it came to NZ and being such a buff I just had to get some photos

I will pm you so I can send you some pics via email

Rhys,

Have you looked at using AirManager for instruments? My full-scale twin turbine helicopter uses Air Manager for most of the instrumentation, including significant custom work on the MFDs and PFDs.
