Title: 737 Rockwell Collins MCP Buttons
Post by: Emanuelejazz on February 11, 2013, 10:18:15 AM
Hello, I'm starting building from nothing the 737.800 Rockwell Collins MCP panel.

I'd like to know the exact dimensions of the squared buttons (like LNAV, VNAV etc).

I was thinking of making them cutting a plexiglass squared rod with the button dimensions and then placing on it a printed legend; on the but I'll put a tactile switch and two leds for the backlight and status indication; then I will put a piece of black plastic between the two part to separates the lights.

Thank you in advance

Bye

Emanuele

Hello Emanuele,

I checked the measurements on my CPFlight MCP-Pro unit and the switches/buttons are 17mm square with slightly rounded corners.
The frames around the switches are 20mm square, also with slightly rounded corners. You should be able to see the shape when you google pictures of the MCP.

I hope this helps you out.

Thank you so much. I'm making a CAD drawing of the front plate of the MCP so I can have all the dimensions and check if all fits in correctly.
I'm maybe using slightly bigger digits ( 14.2 mm from led to led in height ) but I think they are fine.
When I've done I can share here the CAD file if anyone need it.

Thank you again.

Best
Emanuele

I just found these, easy and cheap with little mod. I wish to found those earlier to my own MCP  :P They have two different size.

Thanks !!! Those are good and would be perfect for the job !!! But thinking I should get 14 of them for the MCP I'd spend 34.4€ only for the buttons; I'm trying to keep my budget as low as possible doing by myself all I can if the result isn't too bad ;-) So I bought most components on http://www.taydaelectronics.com/ (http://www.taydaelectronics.com/) that is very very cheap and I'll spend 32€ for all MCP components, excluding the plexiglass panel about (10/15 € for 2 or 3 layers) and the squared plexiglas rod (12€ for 1 mt). I hope I can do a decent job !!!

Someplace there is a tutorial on doing exactly this I will have to see if I can find it.

I've taken the idea from here : http://home.hccnet.nl/jwopdenakker/building%20tip.html (http://home.hccnet.nl/jwopdenakker/building%20tip.html)

Is this one ?

Hi Emanuele,

I measured one of my MCP switches and attached the measurements (in inches)
