Title: P3D v5.2 SDK and new terrain avoidance feature
Post by: navymustang on September 09, 2021, 07:27:31 PM
A little gem of code has been dropped into the 5.2 SDK that allows G1000 style terrain avoidance features to be displayed within a dockable window in P3D v5.2.

This will allow those of us who are building our own PFDs to now have terrain avoidance features as in the G1000 with synthetic vision. Stay tuned as I work on integrating my version of this into my AirManager-based PFDs and MFDs for my helicopter sim.

are talking about EVS   which is interesting because normally that is a heads up feature but as I understand it you are doing as a heads down feature as you would an aircraft  helicopters normally single pilot operation hence the comment .. but this being said yours is a military type application so two crew .. have you considered the HUD,s  which as recently gone out as a RFI ?   if you did go down this route then imho best software  as add on without any grief is X Plane with real huds add on

Very few helicopters have HUDs. And a HUD is nearly impossible to do in a home simulator to get it aligned properly with the visual system. I tried for months on my 737-800 build and never was totally successful.

EVS in many cases is not synthetic vision. EVS is simply FLIR super-imposed on the HUD (or HGS in Boeing terms). And yes, EVS is a heads up type system. Synthetic vision is what all the new aircraft are going to including the latest G1000 series.
