Title: F16 Falcon Sim..
Post by: simlady/ Karen on February 05, 2012, 09:24:40 AM
I've been flying with BSD and building with him for years and I think it's about time I get my own Sim. (Trevor asked back in Oct when I would be getting my own.)

Yes, you heard me right but I'm going with an F16 Falcon. Something fast and can do combat with. (I promise not to shoot down anyone  ).

I'm planing on buying a kit (once the company gets them out of prototype production) and then going from there. I will be using 3 large LCD screens for the view. Since I'll be in a smaller area, i won't be using projectors like BSD. I have to be in a different room as his B737 takes up too much room and I'm not moving that thing...again.

I wanted to give you all a heads ups...being the nice person I am..

BSD is happy I'm getting into a sim but I'm not leting him run with this too much as I want to build this myself from the ground up. I might need him to hold a board for me or paint something.... I think it would only be fair that I wake him up at the crack of dawn to do it in his pj's too...  ;D

That's what I use the small pit for.  Just getting back into BenchmarkSims Falcon 4 redo BMS 4.32 and a touch of Rise of Flight and A10.

The 40" screens in the Obutto pit are about perfect.  Getting an adjustable stand made for the the 3 screen so I don't have one on the Obutto and 2 on boxes :)

Mark is going to build a mount for a 23" touchscreen as well since I can export the cockpit instruments to it.

...and my friend Chris has been building an F16 pit for the past decade.  He's always tweaking it, but flies it all the time.  Pretty good resource for it and I can get you his contact info if you want.

Phil744, thanks for the offer....but No.... and yes i have been to viperpits. I'm looking for a starter kit... going old fashion,  build it from the ground up. call me weird.. it's okay. I won't mind.

BSD already knows where I can buy a hemlet and a flight suit but I told him I have to build it first. I think he just wants to see me in the flight suit.

Here's the stand right before it was boxed to ship.

I'll post more in a thread next week once I get the monitors on it.

the framing looks nice, please post pics when you have the screens on. I'm thinking this will be the way to go. I like how it's free standing... BSD wants me to go with Bigger screens but I'm not sure I will do that once I see yours.

I don't have FSX loaded on this PC, and have not configured Falcon the way I want the view, but wow, is this immersive 25" from my face :)

That looks so sweet... thanks for posting a video.

I finally got some CAD drawings for my sim, just need them cut out so i can get going.

I was sick last week and just finishing up... had to give it to BSD first. I didn't want him to get upset for not sharing my cold.

I would guess that you will be using Falcon 4 BMS 4.32 to drive the sim?  It's the only variety of falcon 4 that is in DX9 which you'll need for three screens.

I'm back flying it and benchmark sims did an awesome job with it.  Even noticed how much trim I need to add when running an asymmetrical load after dropping one LGBU.

I fly with the 20th VFW. Good group of folks to learn with, and nothing better than flying a strike mission with some real people in two four ship elements.

Who's kit are you buying?  I'm looking at getting an ICP soon. Need to finish the 737 before I go nuts on a viper pit :)
Title: Re: F16 Falcon Sim..
Post by: simlady/ Karen on February 25, 2012, 05:54:17 AM
I will probably go that route since I really like your view set up and I can't see doing all this with one view.

As for the kit, I was looking at  scsimulation.com but they aren't selling the "New" kits yet and they don't have any of the old ones left. Right now I'm looking at taking CAD drawings to someone local to start cutting. I hate waiting...

I looked at a number of different sits but can't find a simple "shell kit" I found all kinds of turn key systems but that's not what  l want. If you know of a company, please let me know.

this is really what I'm looking for..

Simlady has been rather busy at work since they're short two people on her staff. In the mean time, I am posting these photos of her F16 being built. It is almost finished in regards to the shell aspects...

Enjoy the pics.

Now, let me crawl off the bed here and hit the men showers before Simlady knows I'm up, and then stalls me to say how much she enjoyed having her fingers all over everyone...metaphor...as in fingers on keyboard typing to post on CB...gosh, you guys what did you think I meant?...geesh!

Well, it's simlady in regards to cockpit building, but not a simulation of a lady in other regards. She's the real deal! However, I don't know if she ever posted this, but you'd laugh if you knew her maiden last name...

Wing

Yes! Her maiden last name is really Wing! Amazing as that is, I see it as a big bonus for being in flight simulation and her okay with it all, as well as doing her Own F16. What more could I ask for with a girl name Wing...

Hi Trevor,

Yes, she is very happy with the progress of Teejay's work and that she has coordinated so much, so soon. In addition to the cockpit, Bob hooked her up with a Thrustmaster Cougar Stick and Throttle, as well as a MFD set soon to arrive...YOUR SO AWESOME BOB!

She is going to go with John Skibo's method of display setup; maybe, the screens will be a little bigger, not sure yet. She has been eyeballing 60's for LCD Screens size. I'm like go for it girl...

As for panels, I've been checking with some good guys and hope to hear something soon. She wants backlit panels, as opposed to decals, but F16 Panels are not common. Here is hint for maybe FDS...yo Peter and Steve you reading this?...you should make a fighter, more so the F16. Why? Look how many hits this thread has gotten, over 1,200 easy. So, that means at least 25% are potentials, that is 300 folks who likely would buy and that is just a modest guess.

I believe that F16's fighters are more popular than any heavy like the B737NG or Airbus. The F16 is what most younger kids and younger adults 18-30 want...you know the KILL FACTOR is keen for them. Speaking of it; maybe Cockpit Builders needs a fighter section for them to fire back and forth in...okay, I mean a seperate section they can share ideas. Yes, there is viper.net or whatever it's called, but Cockpit Builders is for all types, so a section for fighters would be a plus for CB. Heck, let Simlady moderate it...lol, here I go getting into trouble by volunteering her!

Anyway, there will be more pics and updates on her F16 soon, the next big thing is to go pick it up in the next week or two...lucky me, and it's not even for my pit...love is crazy though, so I go with a smile.

Guys

I think we have here the first symptoms of an acute case of Fighterahitis.
Clearly subject vision is blurred by hot flashes probably caused by a defective brain pressurization system imposing undue stress on a specific zone where images of the famous Top Gun female instructor are located.

Jack,  I would have to concur with you on this diagnosis.  I feel the outcome may be grim.  The only possible cure for such a condition is continuous inhalation of JET1A for at least 3 weeks.  Not sure what other line of prognosis we could suggest here.

Funny Jack!

Perfect timing, I was just up for a lav break because I went to bed 6 hours ago; anyway, I was talking to Simlady about the world news, and she says " you know talking about all that in between sleeping will give you nightmares". I said "you're right, so now I need to think of something else", so here I am laying back in bed on the Ipad reading your post.

You hit the spot by talking about the female instructor in the Top Gun movie. None other than Ms. Kathleen Turner! She was a total babe back in her hey days! Those legs she had were so shapely and hot!!! Admit it, most of us got into airplanes because she gave us the "HARD STICK" to man handle our fully loaded fighters with.

She made the term "FIRE & FORGET" acceptable to every young man, as well as every young woman wanting to be like her and instruct those young men on how to handle their sticks...

The point in all this, I'm going back to sleep thinking of her now, and NO, that is not cheating on Simlady, actually, I am just going for virtual training in my dreams. I didn't say a word about getting Kathleen Turner to go for a ride on my "Crotch Rocket" or anything like that! Although, I would give her a ride if she were standing there with her thumb out...

Oh the slap happy factor is back on me again... I better go to sleep...ZZZZzzzz

WAIT WHAT!? Oh man, that could be what's wrong with me then, as I have been using that scented Jet Fuel everytime I fly! Man O' man...oh well, I like it! Now, Simlady says it stinks! Wait a second, you could call it wife repellant...uh, nope better not, how about virtual jet exhaust fumes that women prefer not to smell and avoid it tremendously. okay, that sounds better.

Okay, alright, I am going to sleep now...ZZZZzzzz, zzzzzzzz, dreaming...yes Ms Turner, yes Ms Turner...zzzzzzzz

Goodnight,

As for the stinky smell, it's not that bad but I may have to limit his use and lock it in the safe. He would get more inflight meals if he didn't use it so much... haven't even had a chance to break in the new seats yet...  ;)

I am also looking forward to seeing this F16 project come to life. Are you going to be using Lockon or Falcon, or just FSX/2004 for the platform ?
Title: Re: F16 Falcon Sim..
Post by: blueskydriver on April 26, 2012, 06:01:40 AM
Looks like Simlady stayed up late with the other "men" in her life again...lol. I went to bed early like a good little boy...uh, clears throat, in deeper tone voice...like a good MAN! Too funny when I first get up...it's the happy drugs!

Seriously, the plan is to try both Falcon and FS9, but mainly go with FS9 because it is much smoother in terms of flying and taxiing (in theory), plus the machine she is starting with is a Core 2 Quad Q9770. So, even though it can run FSX, she wants more stability over slow moving pretty skies, clouds, and landscapes that us heavy metal flyers like.

However, with Falcon it has more people specializing the F16 and the IO software addons like those from SCSimulations which go much further with Falcon are a big bonus. So, the decision is stability vs interfacing, and then find the platform that runs both equally well.

Although, FSX has the CaptSim (CS) version of the F16 addon, the other ways of doing this out weigh it because CS F16 is heavy on the graphics which again is FSX's problem being tied to the CPU. CS F16 is great mind you, but because it is so "pretty" to look at, it takes a lot of machine or hardware to sustain it. Much like PMDG 737 NGX is so awesome, but it too needs a lot beef behind it, so to speak... The other fault with CS F16 is the weapons system don't fire, so you're more like a showboat pilot for the Thunderbirds, in a way...

Still, we were discussing this yesterday, but she might decide to build a I7 2600K like mine and have her own super system paperweight; if you use it for anything else besides the sim you have too many problems, so when you're not flying...it's a paperweight...lol :-) I guess a lot depends on how many subsystems of the F16 she wants to simulate and how they tie into the main machine; thus, would it be one supersystem or a supersytem, plus other client machines using FSUIPC and such, like it is in the heavies?

I'll be using Falcon first and Maybe going to FS9 later.  I want to get the cockpit here first and then work on stealing one of BSD computers. I'm not worry about the "prettyness" of it yet, that will come later, if the time calls for it.

I'm not into the pretty add ons right now.... I want to blow sh.. up. Straight and to the point. ;D

THE WAIT IS OVER ;D

I went to the doctor with BSD and I told his doctor that I thought he was just fine and that she should let him go on a road trip, with a friend of course. That he needed to get out of the house, (I didn't mention, out of state) to get some fresh air. (Nor did I mention that I had a hidden agenda, for him to go get my F16 cockpit.)

They got back with my F16 the other day. We unloaded it and it now sits in my living room. I'm so happy to have it here.

Here are just acouple of pic's nothing fancy but I had to post them.

Karen,

You know better than to fly that thing without a parachute...it's too dangerous.  :D

I hope you like your new cockpit and I'm looking forward to seeing you and John bring that thing to life.

I'm staying up late to post pics since I know you're all wondering what I have been up and how for I've gotten on my cockpit. First I had to make BSd move some of his other stuff in the house so I could set it up in the middle of the living room.

Most people would start with buying gauges and other items to put in the MIP or the computer but I wanted to throw a twist into the buiding and start with a cover. You might call me crazy, (but look who I'm married to), but wanted to try a color scheme out so, I got some poster board.

Let's just say, Pictures speak for themselves.

??? What planet did you say you came from? ;D . Don't forget to cut a hole in the ceiling in case you need to eject.

Yes but women end up filling the living room with all kinds of useless stuff. In this case, this is a use for the living room that finally makes sense. So, the verdict is clear as I said earlier...it wasn't a human woman that did this but someone from another planet  :)

Hi Maurice, ;D I can't tell you what planet I'm from. Since I left, I use it as a vacation get away and I don't want to see it on NASA's next mission flight plan. Sorry. Let them go to Mars first.  8)

I can't cut a hole in the ceiling for the ejection seat cause I need a place to hang the pink fuzzy dice. That I still need so if you some on Ebay, let me know.

Jack, I know you watch Ebay... scope some out for me.

The secret to everything is BSD got me young and trained me well. I think more logical and it just makes sense. When I get too emotional, which does not happen a lot, BSD "retrains" me and I'm good to go. I can't give away any of the training secrets because they only work on me. Sorry.

Hi Vidar,  ;Dthanks for the comments. One of my co-worker called it the Hello Kitty Jet. I told her it looks all sweet and nice and then I move in for the kill. I want people to see me coming, like playing cat and mouse. I figure, why hide, be bold and out there.

BSD first reaction to the color scheme was, "OMG, you can't do that to a fighter!"
I only had one reply, "Yes I can. Watch me."  :-*

Yo! Your Fuzzy Dice are on the way for you to hang above your F16, as well as continue to Pink-a-fy your fighter...OMG! What next, Pink Flight Suit and Flight Helment?

By the way, Karen's fighter name is "POOF!". Why because she likes to blow things up and see that little "POOF" of smoke and flames as she screams by overhead with that EVIL laugh...muah ha ha...lol!
