Hi Joe,

I am just starting my cockpit build (B738). I will soon take delivery of my GLB overhead (if the product is as good as the service it will be superb). Anyway, I wanted to read the PC Pilot article that you wrote for the journal but cannot find it in my stack and the Editor of PC Mag. didn't seem to know which edition it was in (I met him at a flight sim exhibition). He suggested it might have been in one of the 'specials' but I have bought them all and don't have it.

Can you please let me know which edition your article was featured?

Thanks in advance.

My regards

David Miller (UK)

Hi David,

Which article are you referring to, I've written quite a few for PCP regarding the 737 build.
If you can identify the content, I can tell you which issue it appeared in.

Best regards
Joe.

Hi Joe,

I am looking for the overhead article please.

Thanks

David

Hi David,

The overhead article has not been finished yet and so obviously not published either. So I'm still not sure which article you've seen.

To give you some idea, the panels were from Engravity and FDS, the whole overhead was interfaced using FDS's SYS Boards. This final article is due to appear sometime this year but it hasn't been scheduled yet.

Best regards
Joe.

David,
Thanks for this link. Have been thinking of different methods for backlighting overhead and really didnt feel like selling my panels for IBL ones. Have to try that out. Thanks again.

Glad to help. By way of further info, I wasted some effort by wiring the led strips in parallel - I should have daisy chained them, much less wiring. Also, if anything, put in more than you need to make certain there are no "dull" spots. It is very easy to dim them down using a cheap $10 12 volt dimmer from Hong Kong - better than finding later that you have dim places. Also be careful about the baclighting getting into the annunciators. It is easy to lightproof them before you wire up!!

Glad to be able to pay back your help

Hi David,
Had a look at this article, very interesting and similar to the route I took with my overhead, although I used white LEDs; which I have to say are a bit too garish. What colour did you use?

Cheers
Joe.

Hi Joe

I used orange leds as I thought white was, as you say a little garish. Also yellow was a little wishy washy! It is really a subjective decision.

Get the warm white Led stripes with an orange acetate film (Any Art store)
98% similar in color to the FDS IBLs.

Thanks Guys,

Have to say Jack I never thought of adding a coloured acetate to mute the colour. There's always an answer and you guys here can usually provide it... :)

Cheers
Joe.
