Title: First CockpitBuilders.com Annual Get Together
Post by: fdspcos on December 10, 2011, 09:23:54 AM
To follow up the idea of an Annual Get Together here is a nice start from Peter.
---------------------------------------------
"Pick a day in the summer folks, we are more than willing/able to host the "First Annual Cockpitbuilders.com" event at our new facility.
We move in a week and the new shop is well set up for this sort of thing by then.
Steve and I should have a complete 737NG device in the front lobby with a 3-Channel Collimated display running.
Lets discuss.
Peter"
----------------------------------------------
Suggestions, comments are welcome.
Please chime in.

I wonder which would be the most expensive, the plane ticket from the other side of the planet or the eskimo suit to survive!! That would be great, it's on the wish list to visit FDS!

Gents,  I will put this together.  I will have a chat with Peter and crew as soon as the holidays are over, and lets make this happen.  If FDS is happy to host us, we would be honored to take them up on this offer.

Seems like it is time that we get this ball rolling.  We can schedule it for the summer, so that those of you who need to get passports have lots of time to get one.

Sounds like an amazing idea.

Gwyn: Hot and muggy, an irresistible way to escape from YOUR "winter"
Would be fantastic to have you here Guys!

One charm of Cockpitbuilders.com is to have a real international membership and having an Event like this would not be centered on visiting Hardware booths but on finally shaking hands with you crazy Guys and  share our contagious passion for flight .
Toronto is served by most if not all airlines and it will be wonderful to see all of you flocking in from all continents.
TBC 4 sure!

No promises... But hoping to make it over for Oshkosh 2012 and my sister lives in RI so if the dates are close enough and the ticket prices don't kill me it might happen. Still need a visa for Canada though :(

Might be a good idea to link it with Oshkosh,
Setting a date too, as soon as possible, for the visa requirements
Tourist visa for Canada should notbe an issue as long as arrangments are made ahead of time.

I will be there. However I need a date ASAP. At work, I am already late to schedule some days off next year. Best time for me, end of August, begining of September

I'm in but if it is early....

I'm PCS'ing back over to Germany this summer.  Just my luck I'll miss the get together...

The bright side is I can make FS Weekend in Europe next year (of course, again, with my luck...  they'll have it in Australia next year!)

I think this is a fantastic idea, I'm hoping I can make it even though it is the other side of the globe. The real problem is stuffing the FDS 787 project into my suitcase!!

No effe, definately Oz as in Oztralia,,, the land down under

So I have been thinking about this trip to Canada and some questions come to mind...

What are the best dates to come to Canada?

What are we actually going to do?

How many days do ppl contemplate meeting up for?

Do we Aussies want to meet up somewhere (?Brisbane) and travel together?

Some things to think about over the holidays

Count me in for sure!.  As mentioned elsewhere getting a date nailed down ASAP would help facilitating schedules.  Would not want to miss it due to some other kind of family vacation commitment etc.

I wish I could come too, but traveling from Greece to Canada is difficult for a weekend.

Does anyone live near the meeting place that can give us some ideas about hotels, touristy stuff etc.

cheers

I usually stay at the Holiday Inn. Next door to FDS and all OK.

Trev:
The idea to sync this with Oskosh has been floated.

What do you think Guys?

Jack

Syncing with Oshkosh would make the date around late July? That is the peak period cost for flight tickets, eg with BA that is £851 as opposed to £499 for the same flights in Mid June. A £351 cost increase - I used to fly to Chicago and back for less than that a few years ago.

Just my 2 cents (pennies) - it may only be the UK where they sting you on holiday time travel, also it may be that summer hols time (for those in the northern hemi) may be the only suitable time to travel, if so, then ignore my post :)

Why not run a poll in time slots of 2 weeks and let everyone vote? If the board is not able to run a poll then perhaps ask everyone to state their preferred dates - with a cutoff date of say 3 weeks from the start? Or perhaps we need to be guided by FDS re dates

We should aim to close down the date asap.

I'll be bringing Blueskydriver to this event once you all lock down a date. We'll be driving and it will only take 12 hours or so to get there, it's only 756.89 miles from Wisconsin if we go under the state of Michigan. If we go over the top 879.24 mile— Time: 16:46 h

Either way, it's going to be fun. I'm thinking it will be well worth the trip. This way I get to meet all the "Big Kids" he hangs out with and talks about all the time.  ;D I mean that in a nice way.

Flying in, is out of the question because I like long road trips. I'm sure I'll be doing most of the driving while Blueskydriver sleeps in the back of the van because he doesn't like my driving. What' husband likes his wife's driving anyways? Plus this is easier on him then flying. I don't have to worry about some luggage handler breaking his wheelchair. (we won't go there, not a pretty picture).

I know he had been talking about this and I've been reminding him to get our passports done so give him a nudge for me when you have time.

Thanks everyone.
