Hi Bob,

I'm still in the same place...lol! So, is the name going to be Team USA or Cockpitbuilders Team? I prefer Team USA, but either way, as long as we have a team.

Sean, how about skipping FS Weekend? You've been to it before right? Why not make Sam's Sim the FS Weekend or FS Week? I am all for the big sim gatherings, but getting a new team going is a fun thing to be a part of; especially, if this is too be the first year for a CB team.

I like Cockpitbuilders better. USA is good but I think Cockpitbuilders will fit better. I have sent an email to World Flight so once I hear back from them we will have dates so you folks can start planning your trips. Don't feel you have to make the entire event! If you can even just make 1 day you are welcome!

Would love to be able to take part. Was hoping for something closer to Ontario, but will check with 'management' and see if I can make the trip.

I am in the same boat,  I just took my Daughter to Jamaica for a "Building homes for the poor" trip, That cut into my funds and vacation, Flying with Sam and the boys would be a dream come true, But I don't think I could swing the flights especially that close to Christmas.

in any case, If I can help I will,  In the Meantime, I will get a logo made up for the team

I'm already committed to FSWeekend John. I have my flights booked and on top of that, I am taking along a keen FS'er for his first trip.

World Flight is a week long event isn't it? Maybe a bit ambitious, but perhaps I might get out for the final weekend? I would love to meet you guys, and this sounds like an ideal opportunity. I'll work on it.

Yes it is a week long! PLEASE if you can make it for any part of it we would love to have you! Let me state again, we know most of you can not be there for the entire week, but if you can be there for any amount of time, you are invited. We will be working on a schedule at some point so everyone does not show up at the same time and we can maximize everyone's flying time!

What is up with that, anyway?  Why does it always seem to be the same weekend.  Granted, there was a group flying in the World Flight when we were at FS Weekend.

I am planning to go back up for FS Weekend and hang out again.  I figure as I am already in Europe...  But...  once I get back to the US, I'm all about taking part in a World Flight with Team CB.  Maybe Sam can make it an annual gig!

Regardless then, I will try to find a reason to visit HQ in Tampa the following week and try to get in on the last weekend...  I will have to do some serious coordination to get my mom up here to Stuttgart to watch the kids as I would be gone for longer than a few days.  Don't like to keep them locked in the basement without food and water for too long.

I can see it already...a whole bunch of depressed simmers going home after the event to their 'lowly' fixed base sims. Luckily for them, Sam 'only' has a full motion sim and not a full CAE type simulator otherwise they would be shopping for ropes to hang themselves  ;D

Let me know what BlueSkydriver needs and I'll send him a packing...  ;D

He's already planning what he wants to take down to Sam's. Thanks in advance for a topic that will be talked about  for the next 6 months, every day, every hour he is awake.

I might have to make the road trip with him but then again, it will be a mini vacation for me to stay home, Plus who would be here to shovel the snow?

As far as snow goes,.. you never know. We still have the heat on and burning wood in the fireplace.

As I lay here in bed with stomach cramps that I had all day, I can only think of one thing. Sam, how many bathrooms do you have?

Regardless, I want to rent a portable (port-a-potty) wheelchair accessible bathroom and have it placed outside for my use only. Not that I am being non-sharing, but I have "issues" that require me to have a portable made available. I know November is a ways off, but I plan too be there the whole week (which is the main reason for the portable just for me; it would not have to be emptied during that time frame, if only one person is using it) and that means I better plan for this now; otherwise, it would make it hard to stay very long. Yes, of all things to plan for, I have that as the most important need...

On a different note, Sam, I have seen some of your sim videos and I am curious; did you add a back wall, curtain or something to block out the back of the sim? If not, you could go with the lightweight approach of using the CB decals and fake CBs that FDS makes along with plexi for the walls themselves. Add a door that is really lightweight, you would have nice backwall with little weight difference to the motion platform (assuming, you can adjust for the weight?). After getting the real CB panels and back section done on my sim, I totally love it! What a huge change it makes in the sound and visual aspects; it really feels like a real cockpit now.

John,

Your determination and enthusiasm for this hobby never ceases to amaze me. If I had your 'challenges', I doubt that I would ever have tackled anything more complex than a desktop sim, if that.

So kudos to you for not letting these obstacles get in the way of your passion. And kudos to Karen as well for being there for you and not discouraging you when you do crazy things such as driving hundreds of miles in wintery stormy weather to buy some airplane parts. Karen must be a very special lady indeed.

Hi John;

We already started all the preparations for this event, we can get you a portable just for you, for the rest of the crew I have a 41' long Diesel pusher RV that can accommodate a few pilots and company, plus I have an extra room in the house with a door to the pool deck for privacy entry, and if we ran out of rooms there is always a huge warehouse with a lot of floor space, just make sure you bring your campground, plenty of BBQ space and lawn chairs.
For the decals there is a instruction station attached to the back of the sim with an access door and a web cam inside, plenty of areas for decals inside and out.

Cheers!!!
Sam.

I am already crying...  I really am going to kick myself if I don;t come and get involved..  If I can swing it, I am going to try, no promises to anyone, but even if I could come for the first 3 or so days..

All depends on the cost of the flight.. (About $450) give or take and if I can cover the flight I will be golden.  Oh and gotta check with My wife to see if I can come play LOL>

Come on Steve... you sound just about as excited as if you had been heading for a root canal instead of an aircraft carrier but I know better  ;) . Life really sucks when you are invited on board an aircraft carrier during naval operations. Must have been a real drag to be out of the shop ;D

I have been emailing the World Flight folks and one of the people getting back to me was Matthew Sheil. He is another one of the folks who have been around this hobby for some time and he has built a very nice full motion 747! He is a member here. Anyway one of his stament to me was and I quote
"It would be great to encourage the Cockpit Builders of the world to join in to WorldFlight, if only for a day or a few legs. Imagine 100 homebuilt simulators flying a couple of legs of WorldFlight?" (Used with permission)
I think he is right! SO for those of you who can not make the event but want to participate in some way, here is how! Plan to spend some time online flying with us. A day, a few hours even just an hour! Come on lets fire all thee sims up and get them in the air!

Hey all,
Just had a thought.. Thought I read that one of the other teams crewmembers are working on CBT training, systems, procedures and all.. Has anyone thought of how exactly they plan on flying this world flight standards and procedures wise?

As I said before, I really hope to able to come down and fly for at least a few days. If I could get there on say the 2nd or so (a day early) maybe I could fly with some pilots and go over some basic stuff?

Or any other ideas?

I will be getting there on that Friday and was thinking in the same train. I think Sam still has his fixed base that I would like to use for training while others are flying. Will have to check with Sam if that is possible or not.

Hey Everyone,

Sorry, I've been hit or miss lately, but got busy with off sim project and sick for 5-7 days... Anyway, just a quick moment too say a big thank you to Bob, Sam, Trevor, Mike L, who I really want to be there, just like I want Scott, Maurice, and Jack. You guys are truly awesome! At the same time, I hope more members old and new can be there as well, and if anything, to have a mini cockpitbuilders meet and greet if you don't fly for WF.

Again, thanks guys and I am so looking forward to seeing all of you for sure. Plus, no matter what, I am going to be there; although, if anybody is sick, you might see me as the masked & gloved pilot that Scott knows too well already...lol.

Best Regards,

John

Ps. Trevor, you have to come no matter what, make your daughter earn the ticket. In fact, have her earn money for you and your wife to fly down, and then your wife can meet Karen. Trust me, Karen is a a "Barrel of Monkeys" fun to be around at social events and your wife would have another woman to hangout with right?

When I flew for the UK world flight team years ago it was as close to the book as possible as we had a lot of real world pilots but we still had plenty of beers in hand :)

I'm looking into flights so if I can make the £££ work then I will try and get over.

I'll just copy a reply to Sam from another post :

"I'm here Sam. Not sure yet on what will happen. I had planned to spend that week in Hamburg, Germany, helping out a friend who every year participates in WorldFlight. But work issues are still in the way. So at this point I am not really sure about my shedule.

You can however count on me to drive up to Sarasota the weekends prior to the event to get the sim in shape, and get everything ready for all the fellow pilots that will come.
"

There is a lot of other stuff that we will need like computers for dispatch (weather briefing, flight planing and filing). I guess we will need a computer so that pilots can check their emails and personal stuff - this should be a completely independant computer. I have a couple of spare computers from my Project Magenta times with Windows XP that I can bring to Sarasota if needed.

Bob, please let us know what other stuff we will need so I can help Sam with all the preparations.

I have a couple of spare computers from my Project Magenta times with Windows XP that I can bring to Sarasota if needed.

Bob, please let us know what other stuff we will need so I can help Sam with all the preparations.

Axel

Ok I will talk with Sam this weekend and we can start to get our game plan together. A lot has happened in just a few days. But at this point we need our official clearance from World Flight and I expect to have that this weekend

Someone needs to bring Diesel.  That's a lot of generator running time :)

I'm thinking I might fly the Mooney down for this one, so if anyone from the upper midwest through the route to FL needs a lift, let me know.  Should have 3 spare seats and if you're a pilot, I'm happy to wear the foggles so you can log the time as well.

Well we can't run the generator at night so that will help. Hang tight guys once we have all the paper work out of the way we will start plans in earnest... Until we are official we have the cart before the horse.

I can not make it for the whole time but could do a day or two maybe Mike L and I can tag team to help with skill transfers... my question what are the proposed teams skill sets experience wise both real world and sim?

Once we have a base I can start to put something together

As far as the Book is concerned..  "World Flight"  Provides the routing.  (Possibly the charts) But if not, we all know where to get those.  Once the route is in place we then have a schedule.  (Generally each person would do 2 legs.) Rotating in from the right seat to the left, One flight your the FO, and next flight your the Capt, unless of course you don't feel you want the responsibility or experience, and we will make acommodations for those that just want to do the right seat thing.

We will have procedures that need to be done between routes, there is usually some time up to an hour between legs for pee and food breaks (and smoke breaks) Depending on how the trip goes.  if you have good tail winds, you won;t depart until the next scheduled route.

Most teams do a complete reboot of the sim between legs, to prevent crashes on route.

In any case, we will rely on the more experienced 737 captains to help keep the procedures as tight as possible..  Especially with radio communication, everything is treated as real world and very professional.  I would expect nothing less from each and everyone of us..

Especially us being the New Guys, we don't wana be kicked out LOL.

When Bob gets the package, we will create a spreadsheet, that perhaps everyone can fill in their names in the slots they feel like they can do.  (All of this has to wait for the official announcement from WF).

I am so excited, you have no idea.

I already took my daughter to Jamaica for the charity build, and she did earn the money, but we still had to help pay for the trip. LOL In any case, I have already been told if I go, that she will enjoy the break at home..  I even tried to convince her to come, but she is quite happy not traveling.

In any case, Nothing is final yet, but I am hoping to be able to make it.

I need my Sys board back to get it flying again, but I will work on flows with my Delta neighbor before November.

Good to hear Bob!

Hey i was thinking i would make some checklists, kinda streamline what i use now in the 737.  I would also make an additional explination sheet or notes on how to use it as well as write out the flows that we use.  I think the way we fly these airplanes today procedure and checklist wise is real nice and if it helps everyone in the sim that would be great.

Let me know what you think. I think it would be pretty professional if we all show up on the same page flying under 1 set of procedures.

I wont make anything too long winded, start off basic and if you guys want more we can into it.

Hi Guys,
            Welcome to the WorldFlight Group
If you need any advice or further detail, please contact Terry or myself, this will be out 13th WorldFlight
One of the main things we have insisted from day one is that 100% of money raised for charity goes to your charity, we do not take out any expenses, these come as seperate funds from our team members, that way people who donate to your charity know 100% will make it.
And remember the most important WorldFLight rule....   that it is all just a game we are playing here, no one dies, no one gets fired for doing the wrong thing, just enjoy the experience with like-minded mates.
Cheers,

Here is something you can do if you are contemplating flying with us in November. You will need to join VATASIM.
http://www.vatsim.net/ (http://www.vatsim.net/) registration is free. Join and at the very least read their documentation. This is a requirement for all World Flight pilots. Just a heads up....

I'm frustrated Gents...  I really want in on the CB World Flight but can't guarantee I'll be able to get there.

I'm going to continue trying to set the stage to come over during that time frame through work.  Granted, I won't be able to commit to a slot in the lineup, but hey, it would still be great to see you guys.  We'll see how it goes.

If it doesn't pan out though, I will definitely be joining you in the skies from here in Germany though.

You know, another option is a second CB team here in Europe...  for those of us that can't make the trip...

Just a thought.

Warren

Hey Warren, a second team would be great but if you can't commit now for it, it would be highly unrealistic to think you could pull it off. We should have started a couple months ago. If you can show up we will get you in the cockpit some how and like you said you can always visit. Which brings me to another point. If you can't participate but would like to visit any time during that week, just let us know. For a small fee (donation to the charity...lol) you can stop by!

Ok guys it is time to start putting things together. Several of you have stated that you will be there. I need you to email me: bob@randrdevelopment.com and let me know 1 you are coming, and 2 when you will be there. There will be shuttle service to and from the airports, we have space to sleep and shower accommodations there are also many hotels in the area. If you chose a hotel you will be required to cover that yourself. We will also provide shuttles service to and from the hotels if needed. If you want to contact me about the World Flight event at this stage I would ask that you please use email and not PMs. I do not wish to lose anybody as I have a lot of email and PMs to keep up with already. The website will be up and functioning soon. Stay tuned for more information........

Matt,

Thanks for the welcome.  As you stated your #1 Rule, it should be known that we have the same rule at this forum.  Although we want to be as real as we can, as long as we have a few beers and a few laughs, and everyone has fun that is what is important.  Also, the real winners here are our charities.

It is our pleasure to be a part of this wonderful event.

Best regards,

I have to agree with Sam and Bob, Mike we would totally appreciate your modified Lists, and procedures.  The more organized and the same we can be from crew to crew the smoother everything will go.

Bob,  I think I'm ging to work out of our Clearwater office that week, so I can fly the night / overnight legs but will be tied up for 8 - 4 weekdays.  Plan on flying myself down in the Mooney and grabbing a rental car.

I'll be tied up a lot over the next few months trying to finish up my CSEL, CMEL, CFI, CFII and MEI so only checking in periodically here.

I do have an event a couple weeks before in Vegas and will fly the Mooney out there again as well (this time with O2 and more direct).

I need to get those hours up so Mike Leavy can walk my resume in for me :)  ;)

if I'm not around, john at jskibo.com and I will answer quickly.

We will be able to make the announcement of who our selected charity is in a few days. The charity has asked us not to make it public until the paper work is done. Sam is wrapping that up now. If you want to participate in the event I need to hear from you now. Once we are full there is room for visiters and we would love to see you there!

Sounds good.  If Scott goes I will likely do KMKG to KARR for the pickup. Can do Sarasota in a tank, but rather stop once. Are you instrument?
