Title: How to install DZUS fasteners?
Post by: helloo on June 18, 2019, 01:03:04 PM
I have some Dzus fasteners that I need to install but it appears that something (tool?) is needed to do this.  I am installing blank plates in areas where I do not have anything and need to get these Dzus into the plates.

Just drill the plates so that the bottom part of the Dzuz gets in and tighten 1/4 turn.
The only difference with properly seated Dzus is that they are not attached to the plate when you unfastened them, but the end result is the same.  :D

PS: if you use real blancs without Dzus installed just enlarge the hole so that...

You need a specific sized hole ans a special flaring tool to "crimp" the fastener to the sheet metal. Look at the PDF linked here. Bottom right of first page.

Search "Dzus fastener tool" on eBay to find what you're looking for at reasonable cost

In my humble opinion, no need to spend a penny on that for a few plates.
Actually, if your plates have no holes, the challenge is the precision of the hole drilling so that it fits the rail ( the tolerance is really thin) . The fact that the dzus is not crimped to the plate is non important. The dzus fastener will just do its job when you tighten it as it garbs the rail wire and keeps the plate fastened.

Sounds like a plan.  Thanks.

If you are handy with a lathe you can quickly whip up a pair of tools to use in a hand press, or even a hammer.

I did 2 full overheads with these 2.

Hi Mick,
That is exactly what I did, it took a few tries but works quite nicely.

Best regards,
