BOOM!!!!

I AM BACK! Today i made the roof structure! check my build thread for pics!!!

Marco ERJ

Nice work, Peter! Glad to see you've renewed your enthusiasm!

On my side, almost finished with the makeshift shell I've been building to help me with the wiring and interfacing (and hopefuly some interim flying as well someday!!).
Behold! IKEA flat pack meets ERJ bits and pieces. Talk about strange brew! Now, need to add the glareshield structure. Then, it's taking the whole thing apart and moving it to the basement...wha-wah... ::)
But I must say - being OCD like most of us here - that it took everything in me to not over-engineer the thing and get over the box-factor.
Whomever be afraid of ever building a sim, take heed: it is a lot harder NOT to build!!!  :D

My passion has returned and i have redone my cockpit structure. Talked to a carpenter today and he laught when i asked if it could hold 30-45kg of weight of the overhead panels.

Thats a good sign, he thought 150kg easily.

When i have removed the metal casing and not needed cards i hope to get the two overhead panels down to 25kg.

AMAZING WORK GUYS!

Everyone just totally amazes me with their progress, I totally love this thread, as it keeps me motivated! Speaking of which, I took my FWD Overhead out at 2AM this morning. Talk about a plate of overcooked noodles...wires everywhere...OMG! What was I thinking back then?

Funny how everything can go in nice and pretty, but coming out it's a "Nightmare On Elm Street" with Freddy sitting next to me clinging his razor sharp blades, just saying "CUT THEM, CUT THEM ALL" with his evil laugh... I did not listen to him, no cutting whatsoever, just a big pile of wires though and he keeps laughing!

Keep posting guys, this is a great thread!

Haha John, i know this feeling! I have redone my MCP 6-8 times and when i look at it today i think: "What the hell is this S*IT" But that means i am still learning and getting better and better at this craft! :)

I love those sim moments when I look at past work and wonder just what the heck I was thinking...

A few days ago I rebuilt the radio bay center console. The last version had accommodations for multiple-width radios and panels. Seemed like a good idea on the chalkboard but it became more of a pain to deal with. Now it's a single row, 5.75 inches wide and looks great.

I even painted the inside lime green, so the MDF doesn't oxidize.

Hi Bernard,

DAAAMMMNN, when you go big, you go big! So, is that hanger yours, did you have it built, or are you renting space again?

Do you want to send that truck for the B727 shell now? It's stripped out on the inside, but you could cut the back section off and make it a B737 shell. Plus, price is only whatever the going salvage rate price per pound is...$1,000 to $1,500 range, if that.

Or, send the moving trucks for Karen and myself, as your hanger is big enough to live in...lol! Just curious, what size is it?

Lastly, are there any VA hospitals or VA CBOC's nearby? In case your or my moving trucks do show up someday, Karen needs a job to PCS/transfer into. You're still in Texas right?

I've always told her that someday we would move there. I spent some time there as a kid and loved it. Plus, with age and disabilities, the Wisconsin winter weather is getting harder every second/minute/hour/day/week/month/year...you get my point right...lol!

Kind Regards,

John

Hey Jack,

Post those new "I can see clearly now, the rain is gone!" pics...lol! Show how you mounted them in your FDS shell  :idiot:

Nice eye candy but adds to immersion

Went to fit the MIP and the glareshield to the temporary shell/ base. Found out that the center post structure I had built was too flimsy and had given an inch or so when I first assembled the overhead shell. The result? Had to take apart almost the whole darn thing, shore-up the center columns and center windshield post so that the lower end of the overhead, the glare shield and - by association - the MIP all sit at the correct height - and the center pedestal can be mounted in!
Four hours of work, but it paid off...
I just wonder what's gonna happen when I take it apart and move it to the basement, then try to assemble it all over again...yes, I may be a glutton for punishment...

Jeeez Marco! Great job, and fast! Nice to have the base setup!

Marco ERJ

Thanks Peter! Yeah, it feels good to get something going,  to see it take shape.

Would it work the same if you're transporting just a shell, without anything else to go with it?

bernard S

i do not know i guess it depends on your city restrictions ..

Not much work on the sim, but a lot of work on its new home. Great friend came over during the weekend to help me hang insulation.

Also picked up a decent server rack, 1U monitor drawer with monitor, and a rack mount APC power conditioner.  All new electrical, floor is getting the royal treatment too.

However I spent tonight installing an attic ladder. Not fun.

Aerosim Solutions

Not exactly today but over the last week I have converted my sim to 64bit. P3Dv4.2 and Prosim 2. I've been avoiding the switch for quite a while because I wanted to sit back and see how everyone else went with it first. My mate and fellow member Ken Brand talked me into having a crack at the upgrade so we did! We decided to leave the original PC drives untouched and we fitted a 1TB SSD on a different tray, loaded Windows 7 on this and basically started loading the software and programs like a new PC so if anything went wrong we could plug the old drives back in and restore how it was. We can still do that of course but I think the new set up is going well and I don't think there will be a need to go back to the 32bit sim, it's still good to have it there as a back up though I guess. P3Dv4.2 and Prosim 2 loaded fine and we managed to import the Immersive Display warping configuration successfully to restore the display system. Prosim 2 is vastly improved and a really good feature is the ability to program the flight controls, throttle, brakes and tiller all within Prosim, no FSUIPC required. All the analogue inputs were assigned and calibrated in about 20 minutes and we went for a fly. The Prosim 2 flight model and sound set are great. The team at Prosim certainly know how to make things easy. With help from my Worldflight crewmates we managed to restore Prosim Utils, ACARS, ACARS printer, Navigraph, PFPX, TOPCAT and a fresh install of ActiveSky for P3Dv4. I've reloaded about 40% of my add-on sceneries so there's still a lot to do. The Buttkickers aren't working but that should be a quick fix and this weekend I'll be attempting to get Prosim to drive the Auto TQ - fingers crossed!
First impressions of P3Dv4 and Prosim 2 are wow! I can't see a huge improvement in frame rates but it is definitely smoother and doesn't seem to be stuttering, VOZ738 has had a successful heart transplant!!

All of my custom panels come from the good folks at Ruscool Electronics. They've done several panels for me but thought they might have a bit of fun with that one. When the Beech is alive in the new hangar, I've another sim pilot lined up and we're going to do one of those "Government Instructional" videos.
