Awesome, Jack!

Just like mine

almost done .. just lots of little things left  to do

Jason L

Wow Bernard...that is awesome!

Hoping to get pics up someday soon here.  Finally have my MIP mounted into my sim.

blueskydriver

Hey Bernard,

By the looks of your ATC area, I'd bet the ATC guys who do VATSIM events would envy you and love you to host an on site event someday. Those guys take everything realistic and serious; thus, them seeing and doing one with your setup would be awesome!

I am rather curious, are you going to get everything operational and will these stations shown be the departure/approach radar consoles? Also, are you going too do a Tower and Center controller station(s)?

Either way just keep going...

Hi Jason,

You know I (we) have really been waiting to see some pics of your setup. How long has it been since you came too my place, almost a year come March/April right? Likely, you'll be way ahead of me and I'll then envy you...lol!

@  john     the vatsim boys more than welcome    effect introduction  naturally there is ssurface management area 😉 yiu just seeing 2 of 4 units

Jason L

John,
Yes it's been a while, and unfortunately I have not made as much progress as I would have liked.  Life gets in the way, but I have found an hour here and there to keep moving forward at it, just not as quickly as I had originally planned!

It has been a long time since my sim looked like this!  Still some kinks to work out but it gets off the ground.
A little sightseeing around Chicago.

Welp.. I've caught the streaming bug. Spent some time last night working on the audio configuration.

Also upgraded my X-Plane install from 11.25 to 11.30 and I have to say I'm impressed. We had some nasty weather move through Seattle yesterday so I flew a short flight from KSEA to KPAE.

It was the first time ever in the sim that I thought to myself "...should have stayed on the ground". The ominous clouds, the darkness with the occasional blue patch of sky was eerily spectacular.

X-Plane has never looked so good.

Ray, would you be up top throwing together a small primer or step-by-step on the streaming setup?  I'm also interested in streaming

-Bernard, how does this Wind Shear item work in connection with the simulator software? What does the blue box do? Such amazing things coming from you with your sim project...

-Warren, OMG you're so killing it with your projection system! Is that butt edging or blending? Can you post some pics of the behind the scenes for the projection screen mounting, along with pics of how you resolved the lack of spacing on the ceiling for your projectors?

-Ray, I agree with Warren, please post some instructions for your streaming setup, as well as make some videos with narration on everything you did. Can you post the link to your streaming channel, so we can start watching them; will you be doing both live and watch it later versions (I think that is automatic through the streaming host websites)?

Thanks guys for keeping this thread thriving with all your updates, I really appreciate it very much!  :idiot:

Ray -

Geeez....God bless you on all that!

This only confirms why I have not put my toes in the water on live streaming.  My dual-networked WideView sim arrangement is complicated enough as it is.

Some of you may have already subscribed or followed, and unfortunately, that is now the "old" channel. I've been working with Twitch to allow the word "Beech" in my stream title. They finally saw the light and 'The Beech House" is almost ready for prime time.

As for a tutorial or how-to guide, that's a major endeavor. When I first started down the stream road I though it would be simple. It is anything but. There are SO many moving parts aside from just building content. Maybe someday I'll sit down and put something together but for now, I'm open to answering questions and helping out.

If you are so inclined, do drop by The Beech House and check it out. I don't have a schedule yet as it's not quite ready for prime time.

Thanks for the diagram, Ray.  This will work just fine!

What exactly is your "intercom control card"?  Is that the ruscool card?

The Intercom control card is a home-brew design that will allow a genuine COTS intercom, like the Sigtronics line, to operate effectively inside a sim environment. I'm nearly finished with the circuit card layout and it'll be going to the manufacturer before the end of the month.

I went down this road because I wanted all the nifty functionality that a professional intercom offers, like selective muting when the pilot  or ATC is talking, yet still allow the aircrew to communicate. The problem is that a COTS intercom doesn't have things like joystick or keyboard events output. This card does that, as well as injects the 400-hz side tone heard in some airliners when the mic is keyed.
Ray Sotkiewicz

fsaviator

Any chance you can get a better price manufacturing in bulk?  I've been crunching my brain trying to figure out how to do that.  I've also got a real intercom

I think I finally tracked down the gremlin that was making my life hell!
I've spent weeks trying to figure out an issue with my FDS SYS 4 card in my MIP.  I was at wits end today and getting ready to rip the card and wiring harness out of the MIP when my eye caught a glimpse of a black wire disappearing behind the front panel of the landing gear panel.  Sure enough...  a pinched ground that was frayed and making contact with the metal MIP frame.
So far so good.  All the switches seem to be working correctly now.  Time will tell.

Here's some shots of a test flight

John,
It's butted edges.  I haven't spent any real time fine tuning it yet.  It looks pretty good but needs a little work.

I hate to say it but I ended up resorting to my normal method of mounting the projectors.  The gantry is now just used to run the cables and a hose from the HVAC.  It will get used in the future as it seems I have at least one more move in me...

-Hey Warren, sometimes the old tried and true way beats our greatest inventions. Then again, a hammer to the ceiling...problem solved! Just kidding, hammer makes a big mess, get a roto-zip tool, cuts drywall really nice and has a dust collector...lol!

-Hey Ray, I agree with Warren, bulk order things and sell them. Put me down for one, and likely Fred will get one, among other members here. Streaming flights is the new thing and more builders will get up too speed faster with your ICC.

-Hey Bernard, the set design is looking great, are you sure that you're not planning to work with a movie production company? If not, you should be, as I bet they'd jump at using your setup!

-Hey Jason, I hear you about squeaking time in here and there. Karen and I just finished the ridiculously long front door project...two months! Sometime I will tell the whole story about it. Anyway, hang in there you'll find time, like we all do.

Keep posting guys and thank you. Other members' reading this, go ahead and jump in with some updates...

For my simulator, Karen and I got two new co-pilots...yep, we got two kittens (brother and sister). Last time we had cats (a brother and sister) it was 3-4 years ago and due to age/health issues we had to let them go in life. We had them for 17 years and they're seen in some of my older postings. Hopefully, these new ones will help build my simulator like the last two did. How do you think I got so far?!

Best Regards,

John

Something I have to share....

I spent the past several days upgrading my X-Plane to 11.31. Overall it was a success, with only a few residual issues to deal with.

Took care of those, then hopped in, lit the burner cans, and off for a short hop from KPAE to KPDX.

Lo and behold, right around 13,000 ft something weird started happening... The screen, my beautiful 3-projector, wraparound screen, slowly faded to black!

The aircraft was flyable, still in perfect condition, but no outside view.....

So, I pulled out the dummy cabin pressurization panel and went to work. Laminar Research removed the option to turn on/off redouts and blackouts.

Thank you, LR, for making my sim more realistic? I guess?

Completed installation of FS FlightControl (networked) as the new IOS in my cockpit. The software can run with any P3D-based aircraft and has been custom tailored to support the Prosim flight model and cockpit suite of software.
Great package that is truly feature rich. The owner even logged into my system on the weekend to troubleshoot a problem. Turns out it was operator error.
