Hi guys, a while back I was making hype about drawing up a 737 throttle... still trying and I've gotta get up to the gold coast to check out one that a friend has, just haven't had the chance to get there yet.

So With the use of my trusty ruler and vernier calliper I manage to knock up a model of a GNS430... if you have a look at my site you will see a fairly incomplete model I had done a while back, I've lost my most recent model due to hard drive failure! 8'(

I've also managed to get hold of a NEXTENGINE 3d scanner for an absolute bargain!

I scanned the GPS to get better detail but haven't compiled the scans yet because I've just rebuilt my PC since the drive failure, I'll be using this on the 737TQ when i make it to the Gold coast!

I have most of the hardware such as LCD Screen to suit and LEO's card for interfacing.
I also had a go at back lighting a sample of 3d printed material for the fascia, it worked out quite well.

Take a look at my site, it hasn't been updated in a long time since I've been concentrating on my CPL flying and exams!

Nice work, and glad to see you around still.  The GNS looks awesome.  I think you will find the interface to the psp screen fairly easy.  all you will need to locate is the pins for the video input and possibly use the composite out of your video card.

Best of luck to you and please keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks Trevor

I just tried taking some photo of the 3d printed sample I had sent to me.
It was originally a flat white but I primed and painted it and had it laser etched to see how it would respond.
I think it worked out pretty well except the paint smudged, it was more of a test to see how the material reacted to the laser.

I need to find a decent paint that might handle a fair amount of contact? Any ideas?
I used a matte black paint straight from a pressure pack so I'm thinking I'll paint with an airbrush for the next etch. maybe a Tamyia hobby paint?

Here's some pictures, sorry for the detail i used my phone.

Craig,  I'd say it turned out pretty good.  Not sure how much better you could get it.  Some people paint the item white, then black, and the laser removes only the black leaving the white lettering.

Perhaps you could ask the people that sent you this if that is possible.

Sorry resurrecting an old topic but I guess I'm resurrecting and old project too!

This is a reconstruction of a 3d laser scan of a GNS430. A lot of you would ask why would I bother... and it's the challenge... that's it. I swear this fascia could fit the original unit.

I just wish I had more time to commit to this project, I have most of the "behind the scenes" equipment like the controller board and LCD screen.
The last part left is to have the model printed and back lit... fingers crossed on that back lighting!

It's not much for a few years work but!!!!!! i'll get it done!  :o
