I'm hoping someone can jog my memory on a post I saw.

Someone posted in Cockpitbuilders.com, the prosim forum, or Støttemedlemmer av Simgruppa Avd. Sola Flymuseum about replacement knobs they bought or their MCP and I believe their EFIS.  More realistic looking.  They had the correct markings and even though non-functional, the bank angle knob on the MCP.

I am looking to source them before I go about creating them and printing them.

I am already tracking Clements (flightdeck737.be) post on ACVDesign in Peru.  These are nice, but not the ones I saw in the post.

These were also not from knobs.se or aviasimulation

Thanks!

Not that one Trevor.

That one was the one that reminded me that I had this project still to do.  That along with routing out a new, more realistic faceplate for my very old and trusty CPFlight RS232 EL MCP and EFIS'

sorry wrong company,
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while!

Concerns the ACV knobs. They are not 100% B737- correct.

The ridges on the baro and settings mins are not like the real version...  :-\

And replacing the EfisEL-knobs of CPFlight by the Pro version? That do not fit (according Claudio from CPFlight -  all different encoders shaft and so on).

Here it is, Warren.

I also answered you over at the ProSim forum, too.

Got it Frank.  Thanks!   You are right.  I just found the post I was thinking about.  Knobs.se it was.

I guess Jacob is interested in making the EFIS knobs if he can get someone to send him the originals.

Hi al!

Actually I have hade plans for the EFIS knobs for a long time. I have revived al possible pictuars and messuars just a few weeks ago.

My plan is to make the knobs in 2 versions. One for single shaft EFIS types(Opencockpits, CPflightEL) and one for home made with dual and triple shaft type. With al the details possible. Inner knob with backlit line outer knob and top knob with the right size and appearance. The single shaft type will have a round hole 6 or 6,35 mm, and the other versions wil have the same "American" thum messuars as cole switch(0,375", 0,250", 0,150"). This is the plan but I am open for suggestions.

My offer still stands: If I found a person that can 3D model the knobs I will give the knobs for free to that person. I am extremely demanding when it comes to details so you ned to be good in 3D.

I have asked one person about it but he was unable to make them as detailed as I wanted.

When the person that 3D model the files are done I need them in .STL formate.

Then to the price, they will be extremely hard to do and I guess it will be 10 knobs in one type and 4 knobs in the other type. What is reasonable price?

Best regards Jacob W

To se som of the detail I wish for see pic:

I don't think my Autodesk Inventor skills are up to to the task.

If i had the measurements along with your pics, I'd be more than happy to try.

Did a Quickie on my useless Laptop just to give it a shot. This is a 35 minute work, so no details and just using pretty simple designtools. Just free fantasy as I dont have any measures ;)

I see the knobs as a Nice Challenge, but compared to some of what we do at work, this is considered easy.

As I mentioned before, I could be interested in doing the designwork as a sideproject, as I am very interested in these Efis knobs, and also for the Collins MCP  ;)
The slightly offset countersunk hole for the locking screw looks like a Production flaw. I am not interested in duplicating flaws. So if I am going to design these knobs, it will also be on my premices, meaning the holes will not be offset  ;)

I use Solidworks for hobby purposes but also in my Professional life.

Looks good Ivar.

But the absence of radii of the knob!

It should be both radii in the bottom of the track and actually around the whole track. All sharp edges must have radii. 0.2 0.3 0.4 0.5 radii.

Maybe stupid to copy mistake! I only see the details.

What do you think about axle design then? At first hole and then D-shape?

I can inform everyone of that Warren is making a fantastic job with the EFIS knobs. And I think without promising to much that he will be finished before the weekend ends.
If all goes well this means that everyone will hav the possibility to get really ackurat EFIS knobs. I am open for suggestions but hav not decided a price yet, but not less then 99 euro. What do you think. A set will include 10 knobs.
I also need a source to get decal to the black topp knobs. So if someone can help me find a good source for this smal decal that should have translucent background and should have white text and be resistant to solvent.
Any request to the knobs are welcome before I start to produce them.

Sneak Peek

Best regards Jacob!

What about the black and white location stripe? I have the decals somewhere on a sheet, I can look for them today... However, I thought those were laser engraved for the EFIS knobs since they're just text.

In the mean time, I found these B737-800 Cockpit at night, landing videos on youtube. So, enjoy them and see why the knobs are a good project:

You might notice the location stripe in the 2nd video, as there are no camera lights turned on. Also, both landings are at the same airport.

I actually don't use decals for this. I paint the knob in layer so the white stripe can be translucent. I paint the knob at least 5 times.

I think in reality they pad print the text. But that is only a guess

Nice work Warren!

No need for me to spend time on this I can see. I have not had the time to start yet and I assume my assistance will not be required when Warren is doing a excellent job on this.

I think not.

thanks for your interest Ivar. I think Warren will be abel to fix this. He will be finished any time now.

Maybe he can tak a lock att the inner MCP knob and I can finally be finished with the MCP knobs. For they how do not know Ivar have bin patient. He have waited about 2 years for me to finish them. But a baby, family and a little tiredness got in the way for knob making.

But now I got new energy to make knobs.

Ivar you are still first in line for the MCP knobs.

Best regards Jacob!

Hi Jacob

I am definitely in for the MCP knob set, and surely also as a customer on the upcoming Efis knobs. I will assist you with CAD later if it is still required. At the moment it is hard to find time between replacing dipers and family visits...  :)
