There is some benchmarking being done and posted over at Avsim.

I was interested to read Pete Dowsons post.

He like others are seeing more Perf.

It seems it may be to do with the recompiling.

I've got a copy to tinker with when I get a mo.
Regards and Thanks

Having been in the sales end of flight simulation software for the past 15 years, I'm looking at Dovetail's adventure with FS X from a marketing/sales point of view.

So here is a software product that is 8 years old, written in ancient 32 bit code with a ton of graphics issues.

The gaming world has been migrating away from PC use for a number of years now.

The third party add-on industry as well as a lot of very talented private individuals have been applying fixes to FS X for a number of years as well and have kept it alive for the high end sim users which are a very small group.

So what is Dovetail attempting to do here?  Now they have a huge database of customers world-wide and by selling the digital download FS X for dirt cheap, I can only presume that they are trying to lure a percentage of this group into buying the product, hoping to generate new interest and new customers.  Then, if this works, perhaps they will see fit to write a whole new FS with 64 bit code as well as updating the program to today's software standards.  A huge cost to do this.  Now the high end simmers will love it but this group isn't remotely large enough to make it a profitable adventure for Dovetail.

Let's just say that it will be VERY interesting to see how this all pans out.  There is a lot that I have left out here but that is for another day.

You probably have to be logged in to see review.
I can't see any real reason to change other than boredom  :-\

I think as long as it has the same old flight modeling ill stick to Xplane..

Then again i heard i'll never become a real life test pilot because i don't use FSX that uses table data for flight modeling! From someone well known and not on this forum as far as i know.. True story.. I would think my 8000hrs in the airplane would be good for something but apparently not lol!!

Pete D. Has as most of you know updated FSUIPC to work with this version.  Considering P3D Requires subscription, I am thinking about going this route.  Basically if it really is better performance, I will report.

Moreso, what I am looking at is My NavData is Newer than FSX's so Runways etc are all wrong due to Mag Deviation changes.

Hopefully this will be updated some day.  I am agreeign with Harry here, that likely they are using this to test the waters, and Hell.  I will bite for 25$ LOL

Perhaps the whole sim commumity should spring for a subscription....or perhaps even two....to generate an enticing business incentive to put some big bucks behind next gen software development!

This proof that there is something good on this FSX steam edition, I like it!

And so, enjoy!

Trevor Hale

Well I did it.

Runs a little better frame rates but still having a little compatibility issue. Will report back when I get things fixed. And to make matters worse I even wanted to challenge myself and totally deleted my fsx install. Lol

I must love making problems for myself.

You're totally nuts Trev, but why else would you be on this forum  ;D

I enjoyed the video, but does that guy work for Dovetail? I've never heard anyone talk non stop for 40 minutes, and he still had a few graphic stutters on approach. Also I think the environment he setup didn't really challenge the system.  The low visibility and inside cockpit view didn't really show a great deal.

Yet like most of us here, I really hope that Dovetail do manage to fix the FSX code to some degree at least. Then I'll buy it! - Maybe!! ::)

I'm really trying to like it Sam but this video in some ways makes the point for me.  8)

In certain parts of this flight he's down to 12 frames a second, so still far away from what we need for realistic flight. Of course I appreciate he's maxed out the sliders, so it would be interesting to hear what some of the other members experience once they've optimised their systems a bit more.

I've been running X-Plane 10 and P3D recently in that quest for a perfect sim, Not founf it yet!  ;)

FS9 Joe, FS9
With nice airports/clouds and mesh ...50 silky smooth FPS with maxed sliders.
Rock solid stable !
:D

I know Jack, I still have it on my system, but I do crave the quality of the scenery you get in FSX. In fact the scenery in P3D is obviously no better but the platform seems to handle it much better than FSX.
If I'm flying the pit then it doesn't really matter, because sightseeing is restricted to the airports at each end of the flight. There's not a lot to see at FL300.  :)

I do still use FS9 particularly when I'm sightseeing around some of the Orbx scenery, which is stunning. I get most of their releases for review purposes, so I have plenty to choose from.   ;)

I agree with you Joe,  is not perfect yet! But I have to give them credit for trying. I'm running p3dv2.4,  so far so good.

Cheers guys.

Trevor Hale

Yes, Joe...  I am nutts, but like you said, I think we all are to some degree.

Now, having said all this...  I have a lot of tinkering to do to get the frames and visuals stable..  Its like a brand new install.  But if I can get the simconnect compatibility issue solved, I am likely going to be happier.

In reality..  If you are paying for P3D, there is no need for you to change to steam.  Likely your going to get the same thing. But for me, because I am not a developer, nor am I a commercial user, I can't justify paying monthly to use P3d, and 27 Bucks Canadian ....One time fee   for the same thing as P3d...  I will take it.

And at least you eliminate the out of memory shutdown, from what I'm seen on steam is worth it,   not perfect but better in that aspect.

Trevor Hale

Yes, now I haven't messed around with it enough to see that error yet.  But they say in the video it is gone LOL.
