Hi Guys,

How many of you run the FTX Global ORBX AddOn?  I understand that it replaced Default P3D Textures and shouldn't have a performance Hit, however for $100.00 I am curious.. Is there a hit in reality, and if so How bad...  The other question.. Is it worth the $100 bucks for it?

Was around 25 $ a while ago ????

Really? that's crazy then...  I mean its $75 USD but that's like $2,000,000 Canadian so it may as well be 100$.    I hear Rex HD Airports would be a real FPS Killer as it is VAS Intensive.  Not looking for a big FR Hit, but looking for some "More real Eye Candy"  I fly all over not just confined to one airport so I like the things that effect all my airports.  I just don't want to turn a sim that is hard on FR at one airport to be hard on FR at all airports LOL

I have FTX Global, Vector and Open LC installed on my P3D and frames are not worse than in previously in FSX without them. Can't tell the impact on P3D since I installed them right away with P3D.

Nick

Trevor Hale

Thanks Nick, I will see if anyone else reports the same, I am told that Vector depending on the settings can impact frames.

Sorry, my goof.
It is HD airports which was around 30$
Apparently no FPS hit and spectacular textures for default airports.

Regarding REX HD Airports.....

I would rate that one a P3D must for everyone.

I really did not see any noticeable impact on frame rates on my setup.  REX HD Airports is focused for the most part on medium and smaller size airports. For example it really does not change the P3D custom design buildings for your larger main airports.  In P3D these are fashioned unique to each airport but are not HD. REX does not replace those but will replace runway textures and gangways etc. For the smaller and medium size airports pretty much everything is rendered in HD including all replacement buildings. It makes an immense difference there.

So the bottom line is that there is not that much more HD texture to render in the larger airports, and the medium and smaller airports will tolerate HD much better since there is less to render overall.

The thing to understand about REX is that it still uses generic buildings although the assortment is much more than the stock P3D and is customizable.

Oh ....and Trev...if you are concerned about buying things priced in dollars across the border you had better act now since the dollar is only going to get a lot stronger under Trumpism...that is if the country can hold together at all.

Trev......I am using Ultimate Terrain and Ground Environment X for my textures.  Both are easy on the frames although admittedly not as impressive as Orbix scenery-wise. I am a bit shy about Orbix since so many of the problem posts on the P3D forum seem to be Orbix related, but I really do not have any first-hand experience to make a sound judgment on that..

And oh....I have no plans to move to Canada since it will soon be a wasteland what with all the jobs moving to the U.S.under the Trump plan.  If the U.S military invasion of Mexico goes well Canada will be next.  But just keep your head down deep in the muck in your gold mine and you should be OK.

Trev,
I installed all of the above and did not see any drop in framerates on my P3D instance.   I do get a drop with Orbx Regions installed, specifically Northern California but that is testing in SFO which is pretty busy with objects.    The other Orbx stuff didnt seem to dent my framerates at all and I have sliders pretty well maxed.   Running a GTX 1080 graphics card, i7 3960 at 4.2, ssd drives, and 16 gig ddr3 ram on windows 7.

Oh , and please guys, can we Please, Please, Please strictly keep politics out of this forum.   The country is split in view point and I am sure there are members here with opinions on each side.   We dont need it here.  There is enough crap all around us in the news, social media etc.   lets keep CB a politics free fun forum please.

Thanks,
Scott

Trev, I've got ORBX (almost) everything including Global, Vector, etc.

I also bought REX HD Buildings and didn't notice any appreciable difference.

I don't have it on my cockpit yet, but it's passed all testing on my test rig, so it will certainly make it out in the sim during the next scheduled update process.

It doesn't interfere with already textured airports, just all of the generic airports that haven't been given the expert touches.

I really like it and it gives the hangars and default P3D airports a real lift, scenery wise.

Oh, and I agree, about the politics....best left to the other forums where they like to argue more!

I forgot to add that I also have REX HD Airports.  Very nice and no hit that I can tell.

No difference in FPS? or no difference in looks?

Just having a little poke at each other....  Its a woldflight inside joke,  I am not a fan of politics here either, but like I said inside joke.. Sorry if you were offended.

I am considering the global thing but I am really concerned about fps hit. Airport HD sounds like a good idea..

Thanks

No and No, Trev.

No, I meant no appreciable frame loss. The look is great, in my opinion, the best add-on I've used since FS-Control.

And no, I didn't take any offence. I'm pretty thick skinned, too. As an Ozzie, it's kind of a pre-requisite.

Wouldn't be without it! Global vector is essential too for elevation corrections...

I have orbx global, vector, open LC,rex hd airports,I was fighting VAS problems but now I run with vector at minimums, shader cache off, nvidiaexe. off the taskbar,I now run with lots of vas, solid 40 fps, sliders maxed,1070 card, very smooth.

Trevor Hale

Just hard to swallow the 100.00 AUD for Global, and then extra $$ For Vector..  Big chunk of change LOL
