Hey Guys,

Been Playing with the Printer and came up with speaker grills for my Cockpit speakers.

I will post pics when Its done printing.. Even has the protruding Beech Logo. LOL

Just for fun, I could'nt find suitable vents for the side of the 73 cockpit and one day I stared at my pick up truck radio grills and... bingo the truck lost parts !!

LOL  More expensive to replace your grills, then buy a 3D Printer LOL

Nice job Trev,

I'd be interested to see how smooth the surface is when they're finished. I've resisted buying a 3D printer for that very reason, most of the examples I've seen look more like they were knitted than printed...

Well Joe, I did a test print last night with a 0.3mm later height and it took 4 hours for each.  It's smooth but not production quality. If I changed to a .1mm layer height it would be smooth as glass and would take 11 hours to print but would be production quality.  I am learning the settings and that takes time. With more practice each of my prints get better and better.


Practice makes perfect.

I bought a monoprice Maker Select 3D V2.0 Printer (Basically a Wanho Duplicator i3).

I am very happy with it.  Been printing NON STOP.    I will post pics of the speaker grills this weekend.

As Promised here are the finished pics. I have 2 of them to mount. Keep in mind this was with a 0.3mm layer height and minimal sanding. Could have done a 0.1mm layer height and likely would have been smooth as a baby's bum.

Very nice job Trevor! Is there a big learning curve to producing printouts from scratch?

Not at all, in fact the biggest learning curve is Making sure the printer bed is level and at the right height, and clean before every print.

Nice job Trev, both in the design and printing.

For me the time factor to make production quality parts is still a bit of an issue, but I'm sure like ink jet printing the manufacturers will improve both.

I understand there is a company I read about, who use a different method that entails a reservoir of liquid, where the product is printed using laser technology.
The results are spectacular but the cost (presently) is out of scope of (most) home users. They are working with Mercedes to produce spare parts on demand, which will save the distributors keeping vast amounts of parts in stock. Apparently they can print most plastic parts in about 15 minutes.



I'd be interested to see what a small part at the highest resolution looks like from your machine Trev!

Ok after Much Tinkering I finally have something "Detailed" Worth Showing.   When I say Detailed I mean Detailed.

This "Annunciator Cover" is 12mm X 5mm And its still a work in progress.
