I'm surprised it took you this long to realize, we've all known you have had a screw loose for years now  :P lol.

I've just been working on tiding up cables and putting pc's into a server rack. Its something I have wanted to do for a while now.

bernard S

ahh thanks Gary    yeap that could be it   ..😇😇

Just a couple of pics on how the new sim is progressing. My carpenter friend has gotten so busy I am doing this myself so I decided to use a heavy duty bed frame on wheels as the initial basis for the floor.  Moving it into a different room, too, so (of course) I have to take the whole thing apart again to get it to fit through the door.   :-\

jackpilot

The bed frame is a great idea !!
Simple, cheap and perfect for the job

I think we were all waiting for someone to say this.... only Gary had the nerve to do so... LOL.

 :) All in good fun.

Yep that was years ago now. This is what happens when you give factory equipment to an incompetent fool and say here you go, have fun!

What do you need to share your code? My first born? A house? :-)

Yes. A house is ok. I need more space for the cockpit :P

The problem is not only the code. I had to:
...

If anyone is interested, Arturo, Ray and myself are putting together a design to drive the DME 195 display.

I have started documenting it in the Tutorial forum here:
https://www.cockpitbuilders.com/index.php?topic=7962.msg57246

Unfortunately only the original poster can add information there, we will discuss the details in the Builders' Forum:
https://www.cockpitbuilders.com/index.php?topic=7964.0

The goal is to make something to control the display without having to modify the display unit internally.

Hey Everyone,

Wanted to show my ugly, but adjustable projector mounting. Yep, it needs a paint job; however, if you look beyond that you'll see the metal slot brackets are movable left/right, back/forth and up/down.

Why? Well, even though I measured everything based on throw rates and tilt above the screen height, I wanted the extra ability to move things now or in the future, if need be. Like if I upgrade to 4K-6k projectors someday...lol...shhh, is SimLady reading this?

Anyway, between the wood base and the brackets I should be able to use the same projector mounts themselves and just make adjustments at that point.

Okay, should I paint it white or black? Speaking of white or black! When my sim was in the garage I painted the ceiling black to reduce reflections from the ceiling. Now, with the hangar ceiling being white I am seeing things differently, yes intended pun...lol!

Seriously, the hangar ceiling is nearly 3ft higher then the garage was and the white makes everything seem much brighter, but not harsh. I know it sounds funny, but it seems like a soft box light versus a harsh direct light. It just seems like a better ambient light effect that darkened sim interiors lack.

Hi John,

Congratulations on getting your projectors mounted.

I like your setup.  At this point in your Sim build, it is good to keep things such that you can make changes.   Since your Sim is static, you should have no problems moving your projectors around to get the orientation the way you want it.

Typically, these "short throw" projectors with a throw ratio of about 0.5 will project the display about 11" below the center of the lens.  Line up your Center projector first, then fix its position.  At that point you can see where the display is on the other projectors.   Depending on the total display wrap-around in degrees, you will need to have the Left projector and the Right projector offset from the Center display by the same amount.  Then fix the Left and Right projectors in position respectfully.

At that point, you are ready to do your warping/blending calibration.  What warping software are you using?  Have you done this before?  If not, it can be a bit confusing, so don't hesitate to ask questions.

Once you get your projectors in the placement you want, then you can always go back and perfect things.  Also, keep in mind that projectors generate heat, so make sure you install a baffle on the projectors air flow output, such that it redirects the hot air away from the nearby projector.

i had help installing my windows end result they are scratched right across pilot eye point on both.. no they can not be buffed out damage was caused by a crane hook and numnuts (help) not paying attention ..well replacements 13k plus each at this stage of the game girly would have my balls on a plate if i threw amex at it..lol

so to this end i have broken the first layer of glass and i am going to fix them

Trevor Hale

OMG  I would love to see how you can fix them, if you can.  I have one crack through one layer on my FO side.  If you know of a way to fix it.  I can't wait to see it.

For  Mick    at first i thought it was just two layers of glass but its actually 5 layers   x3 glass and x2 pvb  it may not go foggy after all will have to see ... this is how to do it and tools required
you need do this from outside looking in  not pilot side looking out

1  big balls cause you need to take a hammer to it gentle wacks
2..once yiu have a cracks remove enough glass to get a cold chisel in there
3...rubber mallet and tippy tappy till all glass til  1st layer removed
4... set fire to it to remove clear laminate its about 10mm thick make sure yiu dont stay in same place too long or yiu will crack next layer of glass they only 1 to 2 mm thick
5... clean
6... put in place and bobs your uncle

NOTE :      Do burning of laminate outside fumes are toxic in fact do it all outside its messy

So much for "Joe Exotic" drama, it has nothing on the new mini series:

"BREAKING BAD WITH BERNARD!"

As he would say, get the popcorn ready...lol!

Please record videos and not just pics this time, because it's something we all want too see you do!

GoPro Cameras are cheap.

Good Luck,

John

too true  there is more to this than butta bloody bing ..glad i have a spare set ..will see if i can fix it

n4208t

Quick update on my build.  Pilot's seat is mounted (out of a 2001 Honda CRV).  Throttle quadrant was trimmed to fit but still needs some adjustment. Need more grinding wheels and screws so off to Home Depot again in a bit.

Realized that the next step needs to be to rewire the thing and get it flying again and make sure all of the previous wiring I did of the flight controls, rudders and brakes is still intact and working.  I can't cover the flight controls up or put in the copilot seat because I will lose access to the internal flight control and throttle quadrant wiring once that is done.  So, one computer and one of the small monitors going to be moved downstairs today after paint dries.

This week, I fought, and I cursed, and I almost gave up on converting this $%&$$ standby altimeter.  It was skipping numbers mechanically, or not indexing them, and the more I worked on it, the madder I got.

alt1.JPG

And then I took it all back apart for the 40th time and found that, somehow, I distorted the indexer spindle by maybe 0.015".  This little POS in the image.

Straightened out the disc and now golden... I am an idiot.

I'm building an F/A-18 Simulator (Don't tell my wife!)...

However, my ground maneuvering skills might need some work....

I have a full set of F-18 panels on order. Might be able to squeeze it into the hangar next to the 1900d....
