Hi Everyone,

As some of you know, I'm Evan, co-founder of FlightSimExpo. I usually drop by once a year to answer a few questions about our annual event when it comes around.

In addition to the annual event, I also work with Flight Simulation Association (FSA). We launched FSA a few weeks ago to (1) help orient new simmers to our community and (2) provide a place for those who may not already have a Twitch/YouTube following to connect with the community.

As I was researching content for FSA, I came across Tony (known on these forums as "MistyBlue" - https://www.simobsession.com/). He and I got to talking and thought it might be interesting for him to present a webinar on home cockpit building. The session will cover the pros and cons of building a home cockpit, the costs, the hardware and software he used in his 737 build, and the role of 3D printing.

Tony suggested I post about the session here in case anyone was interested in taking part. I checked in with Trevor before posting to make sure that I'm onside with a post like this.

If this session would be of interest, we welcome you to attend. It's free to join, though you have to create an account so you can submit questions during the sessions.

Details:
  • Date: June 3, 2021
  • Time: 2100 EDT (this is 0100 GMT on June 4, a recording will be available)
  • Where: Flight Simulation Association (free account required)

(By the way, since the launch of FSA back in March we have been listening to feedback from the community and have been consistently updating resources and guides based on input. We're always open to feedback. If you have general questions about FSA and what we're trying to do, etc. I more than welcome them.)

Hi Steve,

Thanks for taking the time to comment...

I talked with Optoma tech support and got some new information on the 4k input to the ZH406ST projectors.   Their User Documentation states that for 4K input HDMI-2 port into the projector should be used.  This is what I was doing, and confirmed with previous tech support calls.  However, in my last contact with Optoma, the service tech indicated that HDMI-1 input port should be used for 4k.  I did that and I was able to configure NVIDIA as 4k @ 60Hz.  The resultant projected image quality seems greatly improved.

However, I am now having an issue with P3D v4.5 showing multiple GPUs, and it crashes.  So, that is what I am sorting out today.  It may be that I should delete the P3D cfg files and start fresh.

Mike,

Not sure if this helps you or not but I am running a 3080 and have had no problems running 4K at 60 hz on two monitors (34 inch Samsung and 24 in Dell.  I fly in VR now and the HP Reverb runs at 90 hz with no problem.

I have been running an i7 with 64 gb RAM though I just went (yesterday) to a new motherboard running an i9 with 64 gb of new higher speed RAM.

I have no problems running MSFS, X-plane 11 and P3D with high to ultra setting with only an occasional stutter (with the i7)  Have not had the chance to test the i9 yet.

Could it be a setting or something with the Optoma projectors?

Quote from: sagrada737 on May 04, 2021, 12:42:12 PMHello Les,

Perhaps I can help you...

I am willing to sell you either of the two GPUs that I have; both of which would be fine for a multi-projector/monitor setup.

MSI GTX-1080  3-Display Ports; 1-HDMI
$750 plus shipping.

or...

EVGA GTX-980Ti water cooled  3-Displayports; 1 HDMI
$600 plus shipping.

Let me know via PM if you are interested.  By the way...  There is no such thing as surplus when it comes to Graphic Cards... :D

That's quite a good price, I paid more than that last year for a 1080ti from eBay.
As Mike said these rarely become surplus, I sold my old one on eBay after buying the 1080.

Sorry again for not posting schematic. Its impossible to help without it.

Murphys law!

Either i shortened the first one or bad from the factory.

I tried another one and it worked great!!!

No voltage drop worth mentioning and i pull about 7Amps without heatsink.

I can highly recommend the D4184 right now on initial testing.

Please post your schematic, and explain how everything is connected. And please state clearly what you are trying to achieve.

I am using a cheap Chinese MOSFET module to dim an LED lighting strip at home. It is 24Vdc at around 30W. The MOSFET is driven by a 3.3V PWM signal. The module barely gets warm.

My first try was to use mosfets to control my 5V backlight.

Almost All mosfets are from 5V and higher voltages. I need 0-5V but cant find any. Also, these units run really hot even with heatsink. And also there is a sagnific voltage drop (~8V gives 5V with D4184 Mosfet).

I can use 12V hardware dimmer i guess but the dimming level will be bad. Almost all dimming the first 5% of knob position and 100% the rest.

I allready have lots of 5V PSU for backlight and if using real aircraft dimmer i need 28V units.

Any tip here? :) i am stuck! Haha

Hi Guys,
Anyone have something like a GTX1080 surplus. With shortage of GPU's i cant progress further with my build. I am waiting on supplies of GTS3080
(cant afford the 90).Its only going to be stop gap measure so dont want to pay much.
Thanks
