Hi all,

Does anyone here have any experience painting real dzus fasteners from a brand new state? I tried over the weekend using the usual method of priming first with a self ecthing primer and then doing my color coat. Problem is that when I try to fasten them into the panel, the paint kind of just peels off. Phil told me that dzus are usually steel, not aluminum, and so they might require a different kind of priming.

Just looking for some guidance... thanks!

Most bare metal aircraft fasteners have an anti-corrosive coating on them which needs to be removed before priming.

I found the best way is to clean them with steel wool & isopropyl alcohol before etch priming.  I have painted hundreds of new OEM fasteners this way, and the paint sticks to it like the proverbial "shit to a blanket"
