Having built several complete sims, I am at ease with the classic methods of interfacing as long as there is no lines of codes involved.
All these posts on  Teensy, Arduino et al sound real good as far as the results are concerned, but all the rest is 100% opaque to me and probably to many other builders as well.

Would be wonderful if some nice soul really took the time to start a post intended for Teensy, Arduino Dummies, avoiding all references to obscure notions like 74HC595/PWM /uln2803/ etc without decoding it first and explaining how the darn things work in plain jane terms.!! lol.

Unless it is a daunting task to demystifie these little cheap gizmos, such an effort would be much appreciated by the said Dummies.

Hi Jack. I actually already started that. I posted my arduino code in the arduino thread and explained how it worked. Hopefully that gets someone off to a good start. Or did I do that with my lua script. Crap I have to go look. But I think I did. Lol.
