Boeing Skunk Works

I've noticed in the last few days that the site as slowed down quite a bit.

I've emptied my cache and dumped the cookies but that doesn't seem to have any effect. Other sites I visit are not having this problem.

This seems to coincide with the increased graphics that have to load when the home page is opened for each announcement made for a new product or other information.

Are these graphics downloaded from their respective sites, or are they on the site server?

It sure doesn't fly like it did a month ago.

Hi Mike,

Actually I believe the biggest reason you will notice the slow down on the site is due to the video Stream for world flight.  On Friday I also made a change to the database to have it a constant connection.  (This is supposed to increase the speed, however I can turn it back off if you would like me to try it).

Once world flight is over with, the site will be back to normal.

Also, I am waiting for the new "SMF" update version to become available to the public.  Was supposed to be today... But I hasn't been done yet..  Once this has been installed, the sire WILL Preform better.  Please bear with me, as I am trying to increase performance.

Thanks for the explanation Trevor. It took over three minutes (timed) to access this thread to see your reply.

Only a few seconds to get the reply screen up.

LOL..  I do apologize, but because World Flight is so important, I have shifted more of the processing power over to that stream..  In the meantime I have (Re-Removed) the constant database connection) For some reason it does seem to be faster...  (Bizzare) anyway.

Hang in there Mike, I really hate upsetting the apple cart, especially with the fact this forum software is a bit slower to begin with..  It will get better.  Mark my words.

No sweat. I was really just wondering if it was just me or if this was effecting everyone's access.

Still the best builder's site around.

Hi,

Not sure if you can do anything about it but I find the site a lot slower than other sites in general - ever since I 1st joined its been a slow site to display pages...  ???

Cheers
Mike

I know..  There is a few issues I am working on with regard to that..  The software needs an update..  That should make a huge difference..  This version is very database dependent and process loaded.

Mr Mike Powell.  Now that the front page is up again, can you please let me know if you get any "Connection timeouts" or any problems now?  I would like to track if it is in fact the front page causing these problems or if it was one of the Mod's I had installed.

Please keep us posted.

Mr. Trev Hale.  :)  The site is much quicker to respond now. I spent about 8 minutes clicking links in the active threads sidebar. Very speedy and no timeouts. I was never able to do that. I then just started hitting the refresh button. After about half a dozen refreshes, something got confused and I got very slow response. After about a minute, I escaped and pointed my browser back to the site home page which popped up quickly.

Load was low as I was doing this. Just myself and 2 guests were shown on the site.

Trevor Hale

Thank you sir.  Please report any issues..  (I really hope this will be better for you now and into the future)

One of the things they talk about fixing is the database access.... I do feel this is where the problem was in the old software.... Time will tell seems to be much faster....

Hi,

So far seems much faster for me - thanks for the upgrade!

Cheers

Thanks Dean, I will be making more mods soon, but just want to see if I am on the right track or not.  Little by little is the way to go as not to upset the apple cart :)
