Hey Everyone,
Just watched this and totally awe struck:
https://youtu.be/F4yKM_FgMOE
If this can be done in a F16, it won't be long before you'll see this in an enclosed cockpit shell.
Imagine the changes us builders will experience. No more large projection screens or multi monitor/multi computer setups. Just one high end computer for the visual side...at least I hope that'll be the case.
Anyway, I'm hoping someone here will be the first too do this for their non-fighter sim. It'll give us all a new motivation....
John
Hey John... Thanks for posting the video. Quite amazing!
Did you notice that the YouTube video has a stereo format? Place the video in a full-screen mode, then de-focus your eyes a bit as you watch the video, and move your head in/out as you watch the video. There is a sweet spot where you will be able to see a 3D image of the video real-time. Very cool!
Mike
Hey Mike,
WOW! I didn't see it like that the first time, but after watching it again as you suggested on my iPad, I could see the 3D aspects. Especially, when he was flying in the canyon and firing missiles!
The current top headset is the XR-3 at $5k approximately. Now, if I could find a place too go demo it, that would be awesome....

For those interested, here is the pricing page for Varjo. The XR-3 is the unit for mixed reality....

6-8 k
Yep, with the subscription, but not sure what that entails yet.
Do you really need another subscription or is this an update thing like other companies...in other words will they keep working without it.
I'm going to try very hard and demo these things, as I'd go this way if they're as good as they look....
John
not.my cup of tea for civil aircraft there is no value imho however for fast jets that blow up yes
I have been looking into the vr option(vr3). It still works after sub runs out. The sub just guarantees you support and updates to firmware and developers support.Subs can be stopped and startyed at any time. So one just waits till a significant changes occurs and then start again. The clarity on these(vr3) is fantastic if any reviews are to go by.They use aspheric lens.
This is too cool! I can see this translating to our environment pretty easily. I mean you could paint the windows similar to a green screen, and the headset can figure out where the windows are and put the appropriate visuals in its place. Reminds me of the Pokemon world where people were doing mixed reality treasure hunts with their phones. Never even thought about that translating to what we are doing.
Then pair it all with a motion platform...man, I definitely see the future of simulation with this. And it would make IG's obsolete and space requirements way less. Huge cost savings right there!
Very excited about this!
This is what can get me back to simulation again.
A cessna OEM cockpit and that vr. Awesome!
plus the subscription oh hell no
but I will cave am doing it
Awesome Bernard!
Once you get this up and running, will you please write up a review for us and do a video! I know this is not your cup of tea, but since you'll likely be the first one here, we need something too go by.
So, if you're the man to get on the blending edge of technology for us, please give your best write up, so we can all follow your lead.... ;D
John
Yeah pleeeeease give us your thoughts on this after you got the stuff Bernard.
doing some homework on it first and chatting with another member here i think so far will need
two units that share the same universe but allow for seperate views within that universe make sense
