CAD Recommendation

Hi All

I am very keen on learning the art of cad drawing etc and would like to hear from those that have experiences in them especially for the purpose of desiging panels etc what would you recommend. obviously must be affordable i.e not more than 1000/1500. I had my heart set on solid works until I called a rep and was told how much it would cost.
