The next item found its way to my MIP panel. Today I present you the build process of my chrono.

Builders Discussions / PCF8574 I/O Extender Board Pro...

Hi Guys,
Having trouble getting switches and LEDs read by these i/o boards.
I have my A320 quad interfaced with a Arduino Promicro and two PCF8574 i/o cards.Attached to these cards are 10 leds and 5 switches.
The leds show for off and on states.
When i first built it these functioned perfectly.Since then i had to do some mechanical work and i update dthe firmware. This is when i noticed the leds and switches were no longer working.Thinking it might have been the firmware i reverted back to the original sketch. No such luck, still not working.
I think the hardware is ok as i have loaded a sketch from the PCF8574 library and that reads the switch and lights the led.
The firmware that had loaded was a hex file and not done thru Arduino IDE.
I have no Arduino experience and was hoping someone can help me to get it going.I also ran a i2C scanner skecth and it identified the two cards at address 20 and 21.I have attached the sketch. Thanks
P.S i have noticed if i disconnect the I2C bus all the axis and buttons connected to the arduino stop working.

Quote from: blueskydriver on December 02, 2023, 09:13:18 AMHey Guys,

Even though I'm no longer building, I still check this everyday to follow along. Or, to torment myself...lol!

Just glad to see that things are still happening here after all these years!

So, don't let crickets chirping get you, because after a while they chirp in symphony and make awesome music that everyone comes back to hear. In other words, keep building/posting and they will come back to see your work....

John

You're still building legos though right?

Go Grab your sim and fly it happily into 2024 ( the New Year, not MSFS  :D )

Poor quality photo of Master Warning/Master Caution panel, indicators, and switch. It's a 33mm square arcade button that has been filed down, with a 3D-printed LED holder inside and a baffle to keep the red LEDs and yellow LEDs separate.

The LEDs match the state of the sim indicators by subscribing to two datarefs. The indicators are cleared when the button is pressed by sending two CMND messages.

Also, you could try a co-axial automotive gauge stepper motor like this for your flaps gauge:

Very easy to drive with direct connection to microcontroller GPIO pins.

In fact, I posted about it here:

I haven't watched all of your videos, but I noticed that you are using resin printing for your button caps. What brand and colour are you using for the resin? Were there any issues painting and laser engraving them? Apologies if you already covered the details in another video.
Thanks.

I have been playing with UDP communication directly from an Arduino with Ethernet module to X-Plane.
It seemed to me that no-one was doing it, and instead relying on the Arduino USB serial interface communicating via a plugin.
I connected a Wiznet W5500 module to an Arduino Nano and installed the Ethernet library. I created a UDP object and used it to send and receive packets with X-Plane on port 49000.
I sent some RREF messages to subscribe to Master Warning and Master Caution, which worked. In my Arduino code I can read the result and turn two LEDs on or off accordingly.
I can also send a CMND packet to execute an X-Plane command, or a DREF packet to change a dataref value.
It all works. No plugins necessary.

After many weeks the center panel has finally found its way to the MIP panel. A dual needle flaps gauge and a fully working autobrake switch that has to be pulled to reach the maximum position.
