Title: PM computers
Post by: jackpilot on October 19, 2009, 05:14:46 AM
I Guys
Just bought another nice second hand computer for my PM network for $100.
My current setup is:
Main FS : FS9 (for Visual) +MCP
Comp 2  : PFD/ND (2monitors, CAPT+FO mirror)
Comp 3  : Eng1+CDU
Comp 4 : PMQuickmap (lower DU)
I will use the new one (Comp 5) for CDU only (removed from Comp3).

Of course the performance depends on the kind of computers involved but it could be interesting to compare notes.
What software needs its own computer...what combo works best...
Any comments?

Well I don;t know any of the specs to your computers but this looks like it should work very well!!

I would for sure move the MCP to comp 4. To have as few programs as possible running on the FS computer :)

I have tried this on a pretty fast machine and did not like the response times I was getting so I put it back on the FS computer.

Well actually the fact that Enrico always refered to the MCP as part of the FS machine led me to take it for granted...
Ivar, did you see an improvement putting the MCP out of the "server"?

I personally run the MCP on the same machine as my PFD.  Pmsystems runs with the CDU..

My FSPC only runs FS.  But that is just my preference to keep FS Running as good as possible.

Been a long time that I have flown but I used to have the MCP on a separate PC and I moved it to the main FS PC and this is where I left it. Can't say for sure that the response was any better, but it sure wasn't any worse and it did not affect the simulation rates at all.

I don't think the MCP is very computational intensive so CPU can easily handle it as far as I have experienced anyway.

I have had problems using my GoFlight MCP Pro when PM MCP is NOT on my FS server. It would freeze.
