Very anxious to see how the ejection seats work!  I assume you have a retractable opening in the roof of the building to accommodate all that.

Hi Bernard,

If I didn't know better...  It looks like you are on-track to make this ship airworthy... :) I'm guessing that you are going to "light up" your Instrumentation Systems.

Great progress on your project!  The attention to detail you are installing is quite amazing.

Been kinda slow here in Seattle. X-Plane 12 Open Beta just came out so been tinkering with that. It looks promising but alas, I may never be able to fly the Carenado 1900D in it since the company walked away from X-Plane to produce 2020 content exclusively.

AirfoilLabs has a King Air 350i but it's a hot mess. They market it as a study-level aircraft but it's not. Not even close.

Hopefully some enterprising company will produce a decent Beechcraft twin turbo.....

Hey Everyone,

Thank you for keeping this thread alive and I always read every post!

Surely, things are slow with Summer and all, but how about saying what you've been doing besides your simulator. Not hobbies, but like other projects or honey-do-list.

I'll start. Karen and I have been seal coating our 21 year old driveway. Yep, it's lasted that long because we seal coat it ourselves about every 4-5 years. Thus, we put down 4 coats, using 20 cans of 3 gal size crack/patch filler and 25 cans of 5 gal Acrylic Seal Coat...our driveway is long and wide.

Usually, I sit/lay on the ground filling cracks and such, as well as applying seal coat with a brush along the edges. Karen will apply the seal coat with a squeegee and we go at it together.

Only took a month of battling rain days, windy days with pine needles falling off our pine trees, and then really hot days of being on black as coal blacktop. Got overheated and Sun tanned all at the some time...let alone all the insects that like hot, sweaty humans served up on a black platter!

Beyond that, we built a 25' by 4' wooden boardwalk from the driveway to our storage shed; had 5 truckloads of gravel, at 22 ton each, brought in and we spread it with our skid steer. Plus, we had our house reshingled by a roofing company, but we helped somewhat with that on the ground.

Therefore, we've been really busy bees, or I should say Karen has been and I just play foreman. I will post some pics of us later....

John

Fun take on this thread. Here goes my update...

My wife and I are still trying to close out her mother's estate after she passed away last year. My mom's estate is finally closed but hers was a lot easier because my mom had no more holdings.

We've also been laying the groundwork for my eventual retirement at the end of the year. Longevity is not a thing in my family. Both my grandfathers died before they were 65, while my dad lived to the ripe old age of 70.

Seeing as how I'm now 60, we decided I should retire early, for obvious reasons.

We have a few projects going on around the house. We signed a contract last week to have the house re-sided and we're looking for a contractor to put in some shelving in the basement.

Life marches on... We'll be driving out to the Washington coast later this year to spread my mom and dad's ashes on the coast. They loved the ocean and used to drive from Ohio to Bar Harbor Maine every spring to just sit and watch the ocean waves and tour lighthouses.

Nothing much here.  Its football and cheer season for the kids so very little time to fly.  I have a few modules I need refresher training on in DCS.

Picked up XP12 but of course nothing really works with it yet.(looking at you RealityXP GTNs)  That's Ok don't have time to set up my G1000's anyway

Doubt I will get much done this winter as I'm taking advantage of my work from home life and moving "Home" to the Philippines for 8 weeks starting Thanksgiving day.

Not quite on par with Ray as I still have 4 to go to 60, but I too will pull the plug then, so we are using part of the vacation to find our retirement property in the Philippines.  Will look around Tagaytay, Bohol and Palawan while we are there.  Also found a Navy Chief I worked with and haven't seen in 30 years so we will be meeting up for dinner.

Bohol will be spending some time with Marco Tammes from this here site as well.

Good to pop in on the builds once in awhile!
Less than 4 years to retirement......

Took down two large crab-apple trees, trimmed some 100+yr old maple trees so they don't hit cars on the driveway, did a backsplash in our kitchen, and finally finished wiring my aft overhead.  Working on the interfacing and scripting for it now.  Oh, and college visits with my middle child.  Busy summer to say the least!

Hi All

It has been a busy summer.

Team Virginia has been prepping for WorldFlight. Vince Thomas came by and helped with getting us up and running with live video streaming for this year. Works pretty well. We have three views setup with LogiTech Brio webcams. We found that OBS studio with Twitch works the best. Active USB cables also make a difference.

Getting the live video streaming up and running for this year was important because we plan to have local aviation students who are involved with our charity participate (WASP). See www.worldflightvirginia.net for details on all that.

I have also been hosting practice flights for the WFV crew.

Right now I am sitting on the deck of our tented camp unit in Hwange Reserve in Zimbabwe. Barb and I are doing a Southern Africa safari trip through the end of the month.

Hi Fred,

Great report on World Flight Virginia...  Looking forward to the event.

Have you tested RPN Approaches with Sim-Avionics?   I was having some difficulties with my Sim.  It seemed that VNAV was not going into its PTH mode.  This might be something you want to check out prior to WF.

Stay safe in Zimbabwe... You and Barbara have a safe trip back home.

I haven't been back to Zimbabwe since 1988.  Its such a beautiful country.  I miss it.

Enjoy yourself and please be careful.  There is no way I would go back there now.

Zimbabwean people were friendly, and we were not eaten by a lion. So all is OK.

On our way home now. Presently in the airport lounge at Kisane Botswana.

Did 3 bush flights sitting in the FO seat. Aircraft each time was a Grand Caravan of yesteryear vintage. Right side instrumentation mostly INOP, but left side upgraded to glass PFD and ND. Interesting experience. Animals on runway on landing at Binga airport. Interesting airport since the runway was paved and was long enough to land a 747. Interesting since the airport has no terminal building, just a "long drop" outhouse. A matter of priorities I guess.

Hello Bernard,

You are making amazing progress on this complex project.  The attention to detail you are putting into these Assemblies is incredible.  Really nice work!

Curious Question:  Why does the Upper Red/White Connecting Rod have a slight "kink" in it?  I'm guessing that there is not much stress on that function.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you  yes both canopy mechanics are exceptionally complex

so the canopies are mechanically operated  push pull bars etc etc   the candy bits are used to lock and tension and hold the springs when  the canopy is in open position you can not open nor close canopy  without them

the candy bars are are calked red bars because they are normally red but I wanted something different   my airframe my rules  (sometimes) they are no hold no grab bars

normally if one looses their footing and it happens the default is to grab these bars  when bent they are poked and have to be replaced
