I cannot believe it! Ian was a real friend and an inspiration on this journey that many of us have undertaken. I was very fortunate to visit and spend some fantastic quality time with Ian and Pauine in 2010. I am deeply saddened, it is surreal and so not fair. Deepest sympathy to Pauline and all of your family. A flight sim legend indeed, tears for you my buddy. I am stunned. Many thanks for your help and fantastic website, you have no doubt helped thousands and the legacy you leave will continue!

Cheers mate Gwyn

OMG I am speechless.

I have never had the opportunity to meet Ian in person but he has been a fixture in this community since I started.  Ian and I had many conversations and posts over the years and we had one common love besides this hobby.

Cheers to you my friend. You will forever be in my thoughts. Gear up buddy.

Shocked and saddened, a great loss to his family and our community. Many years ago I found his website and thought "I can do this!" So I printed off his whole website and took a binder on holiday with me - thereafter I was lost to the "darkside"!!

I was fortunate to meet Ian on a number of occasions at Lelystad and always enjoyed a few beers with him. He was not only a prodigious source of knowledge, but also a great "team player" always organising events ie beer and food at Lelystad for his friends and followers.

A sad day indeed, but he leaves a tremendous legacy

I would like to add my deepest condolences to Pauline and the family, Ian was a good mate to me also. It's hard to comprehend that he's gone. He will be sorely missed.

Like many others I spent far too much time on the telephone to him when I was building my pit, but he was always there to help. Usually with a a little banter but always delivered with a wink. I did have the good fortune to visit him and spend a day with him and his lady wife Pauline; who must be devastated.

Keep flying mate...

Kindest regards
Joe.

Same shock here when I opened the site.
I have all of his fantastic manuals including the famous overhead functional  hard-wiring.
His ingenuity inspired and will inspire all of us for years to come.
It was a privilege to have him on board....

I was lucky enough to get to spend an afternoon with him flying his sim a while back.  It was truly an honor to meet him.  He and Pauline were the best of hosts to my daughters and me when we visited. I will truly miss his wit, insight, and help in this hobby.  We've lost a great mentor in the sim world and the real world lost a genuinely great person.

Wow, what sad news.

Ian was a legend and like others here I learned so many things from him and his site.  I looked back in my email and last time I spoke to Ian via email was late 2010.  Crazy how time flys by....  Ian was not only a great sim builder but also just a really kind soul.  My prayers go out to him and his family.

RIP Ian ...we will all miss you

Scott

Hello, an update for you all if I may. I have spoken to Ian's close family. They have asked that instead of arranging various flower arrangements, please could donations be made to Cancer Research. In light of this, a Just Giving page is now set up to allow any of you that wish to pay your respects in this way the opportunity to do so.

The 'Just Giving' page in Ian's memory can be found here:
https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/IanSissons

We hope you can all support this very worthy cause.
Best Wishes

Very sad news indeed. I had quite a few conversions on the phone and via email with Ian, from setting up a TQ to wiring announciators etc.
I remember saying to him "can you build me an overhead Ian" he replied "I can, but wouldn't you like to do it yourself, here's the drawings, here's the list of parts you'll need" and with his help, I did! When I sent him some pictures of my finished overhead, he said "told you, you could do it boy"
He helped and encouraged so many of us sim builders and will be sadly missed.

Ian was one of my first Simbuilders friends that help me when I started my first sim around 2006.
Many contacts was made since 2006 and the latest one was on 02/27/2015 after I checked my emails...

Thanks Ian for all your help, we will all miss you my friend !

Rest in peace Ian...

Hello all,

I have been asked to update you all following Ian's Funeral. The event was well organised and allowed us all to pay our respects in our own ways, and after some words said about Ian and his life and following a couple of hymns Ian was laid to rest in the graveyard outside St. Martins Church, in St. Martins Village nr. Oswestry, UK.

Every tribute up to Ian's Funeral acress the three main flight sim forums have been printed, along with all the tributes to Ian's 'Just Giving' page in aid of Cancer Research, and given to Pauline, Ian's Wife, who I can assure you appreciated gratefully. Without this the multitude of sympathy wishes simply would not have been seen.

In regards to the 'Just Giving' page to allow those of you to donate to Cancer Research in Ian's memory can still do so for another 25 days. Our original target was met and exceeded within just a few days so we have set a final target of £1000.00. We are currently at £730.00 which is great achievement. If any of you have not yet donated and wish to, please click the following link to make your donation. This can be as little or as much as you wish, and you can do so anonymously if you wish. Ian's family are aware of the fundraising effort and were overjoyed with the amount currently raised towards such a fantastic cause.

Just seen this page and like the rest of you, I am in shock and saddened to hear of Ians passing.  I last saw Ian in summer 2014 when I collected the forward overhead he had built for me.  I found Ian to be a fantastic guy who really encouraged me and set me on my way in this hobby. Ians overhead is shortly going to be installed in my brand new (mostly) FDS built cockpit.  Ian will certainly be at the front of my thoughts as I power up my new sim for the first time and I see his overhead spring into life.   I visited Ian on a number of occasions through 2014 and was always in awe of his hospitality, help and guidance.  He opened his home to me, a complete stranger, and I think it takes a very special person to be able to do that.  I am proud that a small part of Ians legacy will continue to live on in my sim and my thoughts and sympathies are with Ians family.

I was having a break in my 737 project and decided to start again with new positive power.
I surfed around in my old places and my heart almost stopped when I saw this first I thougt Ian published something about somebody else..I really had to read it 3 times.......
Life is short but it is all about how you fill your life with experience and actions. One thing is for shore Ian put in a hell of o lot of positive things in my life. With a limited budget and planning my sim since 1989 Ian was the first on the planet with a totally new approach. You can do this...its easy I will tell you, I will help You.
I dont know witch freqvency you are listening to but my message is. THANK YOU for being YOU....
My thougts are with the family and it was an honor to record a song played at a familywedding not to long time ago. Your impression on me will never be forgotton.

Hello All, Following the fundraising effort in memory of Ian Sissons, I, and Cancer Research UK would like to pass on our most sincere thanks to all who have donated from around the world. I know Ian assisted and inspired many of you, including me and my colleagues, so once again - Thank You.

Since the fundraising I have been in touch with Cancer Research UK, a well known registered charity striving to find cures for cancer. I had managed to secure a cheque presentation, to allow us to formalise the presentation of the amount raised to Cancer Research which would also serve as a photo opportunity to post on these forums to the many of you who have donated generously.

In the photo is myself, and Rachel - who is the charity fundraising manager at Cancer Research for our local region.

Best Regards
