In light of the recent re-install of various software on the Server, I have elected to install a few utilities that I am sure some of you will find quite useful.

MY BOOKMARKS - Ever read a post and know your build isn't at that point yet, and when you get there you really would like to be able to find that post again.  Just click the "ADD BOOKMARK" Button in the topic list and now it will be saved to your profile so that when you need it again, use the "My Bookmark" Menu on the top of the page and you can find it easilly again.

DRAFTS-Ever type that LONG post or private message, just to have you click send and Internet explorer totally craps out!  Not anymore.  The Board will automatically save a draft every 30 seconds while you type it, as well you can see the new button (Save Draft) next to the post or send buttons. You can access your drafts through the profile menu after the fact.

Member Location in Post- Wonder where your fellow members are?  In their post profile it now lists their location.

Member Map- A Fun little Google tool that lets us show our general locations in the world.  Please visit and at the bottom of the map click the (Click here to add your pin) this takes you to edit your profile and select your location.  Finally click save your profile change and you will be added to the map.

Stay Tunned for more changes.

Many thanks, these enhancements are very useful. I have lost count how many times I wished I could save a draft post - perhaps some would say they wish I had  :)  Also being able to bookmark within this forum will be great - else, I only lose them in the browser bookmark section.

May I take this opportunity to thank you and Bob for your efforts in keeping this site running against great adversity!

Regards

David

NeoMorph

That drafts thing is something every forum should have. I've lost loads of long posts when my browser has gone gaga.

Nice one Trev.

Using my iPad to view the forum showed up some weird things. When I use the Recent Posts link from the right hand side it seems to lock the location at that post. If I try to scroll back up the page the browser jumps back down to where the Recent Posts link took me. Gets to be a fight to read the older posts.

This didn't happen before the hack and updates...  :(

Sorry no iPad here to test with. But I am on a Mac and no issues. Will test with Safari

Bob Reed

Looks fine here in Safari as well....

NeoMorph

Tried it with Firefox on pc and it's fine. Tried it with safari and diigo browsers on the ipad and both have this problem.

Going to reboot my iPad and see if it cures it. This only started happening after I put a pin on the member map but that is probably coincidence.

Still does it after reboot. I'm uploading a video to YouTube shortly... Will show you what I mean.

Problem is if we can't reproduce it, I don't see how we can fix it. But we can take a look.

Strange Behaviour

Basically all I do is click on one of the Recent Post links to the right and it takes me to the last post... I try scolling up the page and BOING... back to the bottom.

Oh and please forgive my crappy video skills... new camera and not used to it... and I'm talking to myself and forgot it records audio as well heh.

all the updates look good trev, and im happy to see the recent posts back on the side.

Hopefully we can look at the possibility of a more mobile friendly site, maybe they have a mobile theme that SMF can switch too automatically if it detects that you are on a mobile device like the ipad or a phone.

:D

The site is already Mobile friendly, if you connect to it with blackberry it will only show the mobile version.  Ipad and iphone show the full site, and it works great on my iphone..

I don't see the issue NeoMorph sees but I weill try to replicate it.

We need Scott to try the same thing on his ipad... then we would know if it is ipad related.

The annoying thing is I had this happen on my SMF forum a couple of years ago and I can't remember how I fixed it...

In Safari now, does the iPad use a different version of Safari then Mac os? This one is 10.6.7 my Mac Pro is Lion and I am not getting this scroll issue at all on either system.

NeoMorph

Not sure... It's running iOS 4.3.5 if that is any help. The last Apple product I bought was an Apple II heh. Never had a Mac.

There doesn't seem to be an "about" for Safari... But remember I ran the site in Diigo (a Chrome lookalike browser) and the same thing happened in that. Seems it's something on the iPad that is triggering a refresh...

Either my eyesight is fading much faster than I thought or I am doing something wrong or ...but I can't find the bookmark button or the draft button for that matter. I logged out & back in but that did not help.

Should I book a visit with my optometrist?

Thanks,

do you see a tab on the top of the screen that says "My Bookmarks"?

when you type a reply to a post or a PM, in the bottom right hand side where (Post, Preview, Spell Check, you should see Save as draft)

If there arent there, please let me know.

OK Trev, I may be losing my eyesight but you may be losing your mind.  :) If I saw 'My Bookmarks' or ' Save as draft' anywhere at all, I wouldn't have asked. And by the way, I can't see them either in IE or Google Chrome.

One more thing I noticed with Chrome on 2 different PCs is that the formatting when I reply is all screwed up but in IE, it looks OK.  I hate computers  ::) ;D
