Okay, besides having the ability for both pilots to input data on each respective CDU simultaneously, and the fact that 2 FMS's provide for system redunancy, what is the purpose of dual FMSs?

Multi-tasking for one
Easy access for the FO, like dual controls (hard to reach the left CDU if access is needed and the captain has his hand full with another task.

For a sim...better have a dummy unless you do serious 2 crew flying.
Besides the dummy can have a screen for other things (ATC, Checklists, U-name-it)

Hi Jack

So basically you confirmed my suspicion that Navigation wise, there is no reason for dual FMS OTHER than for system redunancy. Naturally in the sim, it's nice for using as what I call a MFU (Multi Function Unit) CDU; for ATC, pause, sound on/off, etc.

thanks Jack

Hey Jack,

I had initially thought I would only put one FMS in the Lear I am building, but you gave me an idea . . use the dummy for atc or other software . . I hadn't thought of that, great idea thanks.
