Grab an Arduino Pro Micro off of eBay (around $7) and install the MMJoy2 firmware on it:

This could not come at a better time. I was just looking for a joystick controller. Thanks Gene!
Great Link Gene. Lots to read I think.
And the price is right LOL
At some point I'm going to have some boards made up that will take a Pro Micro and break it out into screw terminals. No ETA though.

Thats actually a great idea.. But in the meantime this will work swimmingly.
The boards are fantastic, many thanks Gene.
You can get them at www.OshPark.com (http://www.oshpark.com)

Note that you'll need to get "milspec" turned-pin sockets and turned-pin pins in order to use this. The reason for this is that a normal "cheap" chip socket has pockets that get crushed when a large pin (like the ones the Pro Micro come with) is inserted. When using the milspec connectors, you get a much better connection for just a few cents more in cost.
