Title: Does something like this Exist? Projection Glass
Post by: GyverX on December 01, 2018, 05:32:47 AM
I have no idea if this exists, and I am calling it Projection glass. but some type of glass or solid plastic that can be placed on a screen and project on its face what it is laying on.

The attached image is the idea of what I am looking for.

Does anyone know what this is called if it even exists?

Thanks
GyverX

Morning Gyver,
There is similar technology used by Coli-mated displays, It uses whats called a BEAM SPLITTER where the image from one thing is partially reflected to the Mylar mirror on the Screen the pilots see, but its very expensive technology.
Maybe the next time we are on Discord you can explain more what your tying to do, and I may be able to help further.

Trevor, what you are describing is a collimated display. I believe what Gyver is asking about is simply a "frosted" glass that you can either rear or front project onto. And such glass exist. It is called projection film and it is an adhesive film you can place over glass and rear project onto. Store fronts use them for ads, etc.

I recall reading a thread somewhere about someone that built a cockpit and was rear-projecting their MIP instrumentation.  Those little pico projectors would be just thing.

That would be a bad Idea but it would be enclosed and wound not get much heat dissipation. Seeing how its behind the panel. Im still looking at my options and want to thank everyone for their input.

We use rear projected instruments using pico projectors all the time for our military sims. We simply pipe in fresh air through 1 inch hoses from a blower.
