Title: Circuit Breaker collars
Post by: jackpilot on June 10, 2022, 10:58:00 AM
Quote from: MistyBlue on June 01, 2022, 02:12:58 PMI also finally got my 737-700 CB panels in.  They will definitely add to the immersion when complete.  It's going to take a lot of tweaking to get them to fit properly as the rear flange of the FDS shell is interfering with the CB's, which are mounted externally on my roll away rear bulkhead.  Turns out when you roll the bulkhead up to the back of the FDS shell the flange blocks some of the CBs at the top.  As with most things in this hobby, you have to do a lot of custom work and tweaking to get what you really want.

Hi Tony,
Where did you get the breakers rings ?

The rings and breakers all came with the panels which were pulled for me from a recently scrapped 737-700.  I got pretty lucky with these as the panels are exactly how they came off the plane.

Lucky B..... :D
Any chance they could be 3D printed ?
Any volunteer ?

I'm sure I could make a 3D CAD model for you.

I did a design for 3D printed circuit breakers. They have a switch for state, and a solenoid to pop the button out.

I'm pretty sure I wrote about it here, but I can't find the post.

Jack,

Regarding CBs...   PM me.

Send me the files and I'll print some, plus I have plenty of red, green, blue, yellow, orange, pink, purple, grey, black and white filament already....

Ok. A couple of pictures. I designed it to be the same size as a Klixon breaker. The cap and nut are printed in matte black PLA. The plunger, body, and alignment washer are printed in white PLA here, although really only the plunger should be white.

The plunger actuates a subminiature microswitch that can be connected to whatever. The plunger latches when it is pushed in, and can be manually pulled out, or is pushed out by a spring when the solenoid is actuated (by whatever).

Here's the solenoid I used. Still available!

And a generic subminiature microswitch (with lever):

Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought Jack was only looking for the breaker ring locks, not the entire breakers.

No, you're right. I'm not exactly sure which part that is.

Anyway, it's a good chance for me to post pictures, since I don't think I have before.

Should be able to make a 3D model of these. I had to really pry it open to pop it off.  Not sure the PLA would hold up without splitting.  Might have to use ABS or something.

...And great work on those breakers!

Thanks!

So it's a split ring that clips over the CB cap?

I could probably model it if an existing model does not exist, using the dimensions from Klixon. And I would have the same concerns over the choice of material. There's probably not enough "give" in PLA, or ABS, but it's an easy experiment to perform. Some of the more exotic flexible filaments are now commonplace and almost as easy to use as PLA.

Ok. They're called collars.

And the things that clip on behind the cap to prevent the CB from being pushed in are called lockout rings.

Now we know. :)

Yep, that sounds exactly right.  If you want to make one I can send you some more detailed pictures from different angles, with caliper dimensions.

I can do it as well, though not sure when I'll be able to get around to it.

This is what I was looking for.

Bit pricey considering there are more than 400 CBs even if you tag 1/3 of them  :D

Hello Jack,

I'll reach out one more time...   What CB parts do you need?  I may be able to help you.
