People often ask me what we, at FLYengravity are capable of.

Usually i show them the 6 axes motion sim we made for simsensation in Lelystad.

I'll take one of those, but only if it comes with the Fly Tampa Kaitak scenery. I'd hate to spend that much money and only have a deserted Kaitak airport  ;D

LOL, totally agree. I wouldnt want Kai Tak looking like that either if it was my sim.

We shipped this one with FS9 default scenery.
The sim is booked 75% of the time by local FTO's and they really dont care that much about the scenery. They might be troubled with pixel issues though ;-)

Simsensation themselves have added add on scenery of the major european airports which they fly on mostly.
At the moment they are in the process of migrating to FSX.

All joking aside, it's pretty amazing to see something that looks like a CAE simulator but at much less than a million dollars (no euros here  ;).

Was it FlyEngravity that developed the full motion software?

The 6 axis platform is developed by MOOG.
In fact we were launch customer for this type of platform and we worked closely together with MOOG to finetune their software.
They use this sim as a testbed for their software.

The software comes from MOOG aswell and in fact uses the same core that their big level D platforms use. We have been testing the motion queing days and days and days with some real life 737 pilots and the moog engineers.

FS9 or FSX supplies the data to the MOOG software and this translates it to the right movements. Without MOOGs software and experience it would never have been possible to make such good motion.

Unfortunately FS is somewhat limited in the data it outputs.
X-plane outputs much more physical data needed to correctly calculate lateral G's.
Next sim we will be testing on the X-plane platform aswell.

But limited FS or not: testpilots report the motion to be not that different to that of the multio million dollar CAE or FSI level-D sims.

Ofcourse this sim isnt Level-D certified, so pilots can nog log their hours, but local FTO's use it for initial training as cost per hour is much less than that of Level-D sims.

Can I ask a question, just out of curiosty, how did the projectors go with the movement
and vibration? Any issues?

If my kids jump up and down near sim its like having real turbulence!

Hi Nat,

Good to hear from you again.
The projectors are firmly mounted to custom made adjustable mounts and those in their turn are mounted to the ceiling of the projection dome.

No vibration, no issues.
The projectors themselves are used in the entertainment industry and are constructed to withstand a certain amount of G's (would have to look up how much though).

They are also used in entertainment sim rides you often see in amusement parks so are capable of daylong abuse ;-)
