Title: New Gauges CAN based
Post by: Joerg Weinmann on September 18, 2014, 11:33:04 AM
Hi,

based on our CAN system we released the 49mm round gauges, the 80mm and the 60mm will follow soon. Any gauge can be replicated. Even real instruments can be converted in-house. Full Boeing setup available (https://shop.strato.de/WebRoot/Store/Shops/15465782/MediaGallery/DO27/DO27/KAT_0036.JPG)
As you can see we can replicate any instruments. The new series is based always on same parts used. Full aluminum Front, Carbon housing and only faceplate, pointers and firmware will change. Please feel free to contact us for further questions.
In this project we replicated the real DO27 Instruments.
New product released end of September for the GA builders.

Nice stuff. Would have been awesome with my beech 99. Oh well lol

Joerg, I really need to come by the new shop.  Those look great!

I may be able to get out there tomorrow.

Hello Joerg,

Great panels, question! by any chance can you make some Citation 500, 550 models panels and gauges?
I'm looking to put together a Citation Sim but can't find anybody who can make me the panels.

Thanks,
Sam

Hi Sam,

sorry, yes we do any panels also custom made ones.

Sam,
I've seen Jörg's stuff up close and personal.  Great panels and awesome quality.  I drool over his A-10 every time I see it.

Thank you Joerg and Warren,

I'm trying to get a Citation flightdeck from the airport, it's been seating there for years, If I get it here I'll send you all the measurements and list of items I'll be needing, at least I know where to start.

Best regards,
Sam

Hi Joerg.

Wondering if you can reproduce this thermometer?  Just need 4 gauges. for my whole setup.

I actually own the real Flap and VSI, gauge, but the thermometer for the upper captain windshield and the cabin alt gauge would need a housing for.

Please PM me, if your interested.

Dear Trevor,
I am shure we can do it. Maybe we need to adapt the scale to 315° because thats the max the single steppers do with a single stop. But with our system we can replicate any gauge backlighted or sidelighted.

Jörg

Trevor:

I have that identical Beechcraft flap gauge! AND.. I have it interfaced to my Arduino Mega-256... I'll send you my code if you want it... It works beautifully.

Hello Ray,

Does your Mega256 code access Simconnect directly, or do you get the data from a different application. It s a bit cheeky to ask, but I would like to see your code if you don't mind. I have Simkits gauges but the overhead gauges for FSX are not supported by them  :(  So I've been looking of a way to use my Arduino boards, as it appears you have already done.  :)

Regards
Joe.

Lol. Thanks guys but this was a very old post. I have since got all my gauges working with Arduino and servos.

Ray.... What burns my ass lol is I had the same gauge but couldn't figure out how to get the three transformers to work together to move the needle. I lost all my patience and ripped it apart with a grinder and put a servo in it.  Tada...  Simple.

Ha ha ha.

Augh!! I haz a sad now!

Yep.. it was difficult to say the least! After finally tracing the 3 separate coils-to-pins, I succeeded by treating each coil as a separate gauge. In short I ground one side of coil #1 and send PWM to the other side of that same coil for range 0-85.

Once I reach the end of the first range, I hold coil#1 steady until coil#2 is engaged by grounding the second coil and send PWM to the other side of the 2nd coil.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

It was FUN and many beers were consumed in the process. It's given me the confidence though to try more using real parts. Next up is a vertical card compass.

Not cheeky at all.. I'm happy to share my code with anyone. I'll post it tonight when I get home.

Since I use X-Plane, I can access the datarefs directly via ethernet using a plugin called ArdRef. It's REALLY nice as I don't have to reload and start everything when I fire up the sim. Just turn on power to the Arduino and it auto-connects to X-Plane and everything just starts working.

I'm not certain if there is the same type of functionality for FSX. Worst-case is using a custom app to grab FSUIPC offsets or Simconnect values and send them via USB to Arduino. The custom app may need to be written if nothing exists.

On Peter Dowson's page there's a link to an FSUIPC Developer kit, which works nicely. I mainly use C#, but the DevKit contains examples using C++, Delphi, VB and so on. (Maybe Python?... not sure)

So, long story short, if you can write an app that grabs FSUIPC/Simconnect data, you can send it to an Arduino using a USB devkit for the Arduino. I may still have some of that code lying around somewhere when I was playing around with aircore gauges.

Lol @ ray.

I was playing with those pins and found a similar thing. I was using a transistor and 12v and driving the gauge through the pwm.

Problem was I was not holding the previous coil steady. I just tried each coil by itself. Lol

In any case I am happy with the servo movement. Don't be sad thoughz. I smoothed out the grinding and made the gauge look nice still.
